Hi all,

With a number of high powered Zeds on the forum im wondering if you can give me some sort of idea in what im going to expect trying to get the car off the line quickly say at a 0.60 sprint or pulling out a junction quickly. Also how they handle when laying down the power though the gears?

Im wanting to replace the hatch with a Carbon one hopefully! Im just thinking what extra problems it could give me being so much lighter at the rear as the hatch is so heavy and is practicly the whole rear of the car. Im guessing cornering will be an issue too.

I think ive bought every uprated mod possible to gain the extra traction but not sure once taking the weight away if they would be much use?

What do you think?

Im hoping to achieve around 550-600@ the fly.

Thanks Dan

Personally I think it would be unwise to remove all the weight as you will loose traction! Really comes down to set up?

What suspension mods your running?

What size wheels and tyres & Pressures?

even what brand?

obviously the set up for track and road are completely different

Its how longs a piece of string really? also depends on your driving style.

Hi this is what ive got installed to date. I wouldnt know what pressures to use but hope this list can give you an idea.

Quaife ATB diff

N/A Ratio leader gears,

1 Piece light weight prop with UJ's

Nismo gearbox mount,

Suspension

MeisterR Zeta R Coilovers

MeisterR Pillow ball top mounts.

Driftworks rear hub bushes,

Full Energy suspension poly bush kit:

Rear subframe, Diff and steering rack.

Z1 solid subframe mounting bushes,

Rose jointed:

Godspeed lower adjustable arms (front)

SPL adjustable camber arms (front)

Powertrix adjustable tension arms (front)

Powertrix adjustable camber arms (rear)

Powertrix adjustable traction rods (rear)

SPL Hicas lock out bar and arms,

Stilllen adjustable anti roll bars,

Stillen adjustable drop links (front/back)

Stillen rear strut brace,

Carbing front strut brace,

Wheels & Tyres

Rota light weight GTR'D alloys

Front 245/40/18 9.5j

Rear 275/35/18 10j

Toyo T1R Proxy tyres

light weight wheel nuts

Im not sure if you have any room to go wider on the rear but I would go as much as you could with track tyres like the tripple 8s. Weight on the rear and take off? Well its rear wheel drive so will bite down on take off so the weight difference of a hatch isn't gonna make a difference. Lower pressures on the rear will give you more bite but I think for large power those tyres are pretty narrow.

Have a look at speciality z's zed and what they are running on tyres as they are putting out over 700 at the wheels be a good way of gauging what would be best

Well if you've got a carbon tailgate and don't wanna put it on I'll have it off of you lol.

Of course reduce weight as much as you can. Less weight you have it's much easier to set the car up and the faster you go - simple really :) Looking at your spec you should have excellent traction in the dry if set up right.

Best place to test and adjust is the track. Why not join me at silverstone on 26th Feb I'll be testing my car there :)

sounds like you'll be needing funny car tires !!! to put the power down...especially if you're gonna be shedding weights as drastic as the boot. sounds like its gonna be a beast! be nice to see the result of the project on the strip.

Thanks for your replys and useful info :)

Would love to join you but the Zed isnt finished yet...But hopefully when its finished id like to track the car as well.

At the moment thats the biggest tyre i could get without arch mods. But i have been thinking about either going wide arch or flaring the arches but ill wait untill the car is finished and see how it goes from there.

Thanks Dan

As for fast road every day driving do you think the weight loss would cause problems? Also heavy cornering etc

Weight loss is a benefit and will not cause problems in handling either on the track or for every day driving. Your tyres are also plenty wide enough too and while T888s are great in the dry they are rubbish in any damp or cold conditions.

I doubt it mate, but maybe a bit of aero for slightly higher speeds would benefit

If it does start to cause problems, just throw a sandbag or a full sized spare in the boot

Or a small person lol

Exactly ^^^^

in fact you could be onto something there....could you mount a childs seat or two in the back of your zed (ie. in the boot)?

technically it would be an MPV then, a very practical family charriot

I would say it will make a huge differance as your zed will become nose heavy and the rear end could possibly breack free.

I have took my boot build out to see how it feels and i hate it. i prefered it with the weight over the rear. It will take some time to get use to but i dont think it feels as stable.

The zeds weight is something like 52%front 48% rear so with the weight of the boot you will be saveing a huge amount but then your weight distribution will be somthing like 60%/ 40 so you will proberly start to understeer on the way in and the rear step out on the exit

but surely a lot of the boots weight is in the glass (and the lump of metal that Nissan put in there) so if the glass is going back in then yes there will be a weight difference but surely not enough to upset the balance of the car so dramatically?

There are zeds with those nasty 'tubbed' rears from zcentre that do away with the glass altogether, I would have thought that they would be affected more than a zed that has been fitted with a carbon boot??

depends on how thick the tubs are. plus filler etc to get the ripples out if done properly.

Its hard to say without trying but all i took out was the amp and 2 subs. If anything save as much weight as you can all over to keep the balance.

Dont forget his hicas will of been deleated as well so weight has gone there.

Do what I did and stick in a Racelogic TC, it's good enough for koeniseggggggggggggggggggggggggeeeeee. You can then adjust the amount of traction you want.

what this one you mean?

 that was a rear spoiler problem. They fixed it after the old stig advised them.

If you replace the hatch with the carbon one how much weight will you lose?

If it does cause you problems you can always get it weighed at a specialist that does corner weighting where they weigh the car on all four wheels at the same time and will be able to tell you your weight distribution and advise you accordingly. Doesn't cost much. Ideally you want 25% of the weight on each wheel, so if you do need more weight at the back you could put ballast lower and more over the rear wheels than it currently sits so even if you don't lose weight in the end you will have lowered your centre of gravity which can only be a good thing!

You have the option of traction control on your AEM don't you?

I have the same size tyres on my Z, the fronts rub on the arch liner, do yours?

I believe the AEM does have traction control/launch control

Unless you plan on drag racing id leave the traction control alone, funny though how you have built the car then ask what the traction will be like, you,ll soon find out when its going and it will be a hard lesson if your not adapt at taming powerful cars, any zed after 400hp gets quite unpredictable and will step out when provoked at any time. Its something youll need be aware of and catch it quick when it does, with time youll get used to spinning the rear wheels at 60 mph + and get a handle on it.Get the widest and best rear tyres you can afford is my best advice,You will still have problems though,a Lambo with less power will ber running 345,s so your still fighting a loosing battle
