There is nothing wrong with eBay coolers but I would stay clear of universal ones, if you have loads of pipe work about and have patience crack on, if not buy one designed for z32

  • Author

Well if i just buy the fmic only i can get the pipe work made for it. I just want to know if they r any good really. But i see what u mean about having loads of joins.

I have had about 7 cars with eBay coolers on and no issues I have also had 2 greddy coolers and 1 hks cooler, if you are going for mental power in mental temps named brands do cool better, but unreal world eBay ones are capable.

ive got a autobahn front mount on mine, ive seen zeds with those ebay ones on, and they do not seem to have a problem, the performance gains over say a HKS or Autobahn one, i wouldn't have a clue about, but ive never had a problem with mine?

Smic FTW...........

But, if I had to choose........ I would go for the 2fast2cool2 fmic, they seem to offer good products at a reasonable price.

Alz.

I doubt there would be any real differance between an ebay one or a branded make. The only differance will be the quality of the welds.

But there all behind a big bumper and out of sight so who gives a .....

For me though i would go for a good pair of smic :)

Personally I'd go for the one with the piping for a Z32 over something without and I am genuinely considering a front mount at the moment, we have a big mouth bumper going on and lots of stuff planned, the smics are good, but WAY overpriced for the decent ones and the cheap ones I hear nightmare stories about, where even the cheap front mounts I never hear any complaints about at all.

where even the cheap front mounts I never hear any complaints about at all.

Thats because they aalways made up nice and shiny to look good and as long as the welds look okay, then why would anyone complain.

However the most important fact being with all these cheapos that crop up, they are cheap cause the cores are not the best, the most basic and your average Joe wouldn't know any difference.

The ONLY way to know about how good any cooler is to measure intake charge temps, if you ain't done it, then you can't say it's good or bad or saying you never had any problems with it, cos what kinda problems could you get once it's fitted???

They so cheap for a reason!

well there r two sets on ebay mate that i have put on top of this thread one comes with more pips than the other, 200 quid .but i could have the one with out the pipes that 130, then have pipes made. but if them pipes fit i might aswell hav them instead. but like i say one comes with more pipes than the other for the same money.

i had a rad of ebay (1stcarparts) and it was great, he sells the fmic for 130 i wonder if thats just as good

Definately quality of the welds, but also quality of materials (in most cases), quality of the core, R&D, fitment, warranty and customer service

I had a informative conversation with Wallace Performance in Scotland quite a while back and they explained in a lot of detail why they sell the ETS fmic

the only reason I didn't go for the ETS option in the end is because Andy Ish' offered me a very good deal on his Greddy 3 row fmic

Take a look at the ETS and Wallace Performance websites mate, they are very reasonably priced

they used to have a link showing a video of the manufacturing process, I'll see if I can dig it out

the Autobhan is the same has the HKS FMIC ... and its very good ...

I,d have to agree , i was very impressed with the quality :thumbup1::thumbup1:

If your engine is running standard power then don't bother, if your going for big power then buy a good quality system, in this instance quality will matter.

cheaper ic units perform as well as expensive ones as far as i'm aware. the main difference between is cheap means heavy softer alloys. expensive means lighter harder alloys. usually.

Not necessarily, it will depend on the internal flow area, this keeps pressure loss at a minimum. Core size is a big factor, invovling the amount of airflow to be cooled..... Cheap ic's will have a small core. Heavy/soft and light/hard alloys do not play a part in airflow cooling.

Alz.

but then again the only way to find whats better is a back to back test ... other than that all these comments about what it better means nothing unless Manufactures and ppl have proof of said intercoolers ..

but the universal Fmic is rated at 450 and the HKS/Autobhan is rated at 500 ..

this would say is plenty of power for 90% of drivers on here as every one knows 450+ Power would start needing engine mods ...

and i have done some tests of my own not on the 300 mind you but on my other car with a 300 quid airtech IC against a 70quid ebay job on Rolling road and there was nothing in it at all well +1- but this was running up to 36psi

only diffrents there is diesel runs alot cooler but volume of air is just as much

thats my 2p worth anyways

very true i have both makes of intercooler kit in the workshop atm. One noticeable different between the two is the weight of the rad itself.

and how many runs on the rollers did you do for each I/C

assume you simply removed 1 cooler and fitted the other?

Oh must confess never heard of airtech thought we were comparing the likes of an 500-800 japanese kit compared to a couple hundred quid autobahn
