PTU Relocation

Hi everyone,

Where have you guys relocated the PTU? Is it an easy job or a pain in the arse? Had a look on here for a guide etc but not had much luck.

Cheers, Rob

It's actually very easy mate as the looms are long enough to allow you to place it in quite a few locations. I went for next to the battery but a lot of people have put theirs under the nose panel.

From what I gather the most common place to relocate it to is in the nose. I think it's easy enough, you just have to unravel all the loom, which is the tricky part. Supposedly you don't even have to extend it, you just unravel it and there is enough to relocate it.

So as simple as unbolting it and putting it wherever! Sounds ok but nothing is ever that easy on these cars LOL

I need to get round to mine, especially since I stole the PTU connectors and loom from the Yellow Z when we broke it, so I can even extend the loom a little, re-locate it somewhere comfortably AND improve the connections to it, reducing det and the chance of it failing on me like it did before.

Pretty much yes, though as hollow says, you'll need to unwrap the loom to free up the ptu part, but it's not hard to do.

As in the bundled wire needs to be split down?

not quite, the ptu loom is bundled together, it's just been wrapped up with the other ones like cas, ecu temp etc.

Don't worry you won't be left with loads of wires as they all have seperate wraps under the main wrap :)

Ah ok mate cheers, prob make more sense when I'm looking at it. Is it possible to re-run all the wires so the cam cover is clear?

it will do mate. lol And your welcome.

You'll still have the ECU water temp and gauge temp and CAS on the camcover. I would think that you would need to extend the temp ones if you want to relocate the loom path as you'll struggle to clear the fan otherwise.

Here's a pic of my engine bay (been finished since that was taken) It shows where I've put the PTU (just in the pic, top right corner. lol)

That makes sense now. What's the silicone pipes Running across the cam cover mate?

That's the vac lines for my Blitz SBC mate, I colour coded them so I wouldn't get them mixed up. Blue is from the tubs and red the actuators. Might be the other way round though, can't remember

Check out my engine pics in my ride sensor wires relocated around and through back of cam cover ptu has gone under battery in the gap there. Anymore you want to ask about let me know I've deleted and relocated loads so far and the engine hasn't even come out yet to do the rest I wanna move

How dya go about relocating the sensor wires without them rubbing on the cams gears?

Its possible to thread them in behind the back of the cam plates and down and they come out below the idler gear iirc
