lol happened when i started the thread about putting the ipad 2 in the car. To be honest i like apple they look nice and do exactly what i need them for. Sure other devices or tablets may be capable of more but why get them if i wont use them. Anyway iphone 4s it will be only reason i want it is it will match my ipad for the car lol

and on the upside im going to go for a iphone 4s lol

ahh - I remember what this thread was about!! Good choice!!

I love my iphone 4S - no matter what everyone says about apple & how "limited" their products are in my opinion they just work soooooooooo much better than other products - they are so easy to use & I have not been limited in any way by apple - it does everything I want & more!!

I have said it before - my girlfriend got a Samsung Galaxy (android) & was banging on about how much better it would be than my 3GS I had at the time - after a while it done her head in - theres too much to do, nothing worked in the same way - pull the screen down, slide it, tap it, double tap it - she was forever saying "how do I do that again?"

She now has my old 3GS & much prefers it!!

I have a mate at work who is a gadget freak - he literally gets every top of the range phone as it comes out! blackberry, android, windows, iphone - the lot. He prefers the iphone over all of them!

Oh - and after spending ££££££'s on a phone I really dont mind spending 49p on an app!! Plus there are absolutely loads that are free anyway!!

:)

I think thats the reason people like me do jump in mate and I'll apologise if it upsets anyone who's so die hard apple, that they can't stand to see them spoken against because it touches them so personally (lol), but tough shit :D

You say other devices may do more, but why get them if you won't use those features? You've got the question the wrong way round, why buy an iPhone for MORE money, than something that looks very similar, just as pleasing to the eye, costs less, apps cost less and does twice as much? And this is exactly the problem I have with the iDevices, they're marketed so well, people actually think they're getting a better deal buying the Apple than other devices, lol. When in fact they're getting ripped the hell off. Not to mention of course half the people who have iPhones don't even use them to the full extent of it's capabilities, they just have it BECAUSE it's an iPhone.

Jaikai, there are very sound reasons behind some of the stuff some of us say against iDevices, I personally am only trying to help and ensure that people I know, are not simply brainwashed into thinking they're the only devices out there. It's bad enough with Apple trying to get an injunction against just about every other phone manufacturer, in just about every other country, to try and make sure they actually are the only ones out there. I wouldn't mind if Apple were even doing this legitimately because someone just took their device and cloned it, but they're getting injunctions by patenting things like "gesture unlock", like they created that for crying out loud!!!!!

LOL!! in my experience its the other way around & Apple haters cant stand anyone talking about Apple products in a good way!! (proved by threads like this!!)

Not in the slightest. I worked for an Apple Zealot in an Apple only environment (Yes, that's right, I'm an Apple Technician) and I couldn't say a damn word against Apple, else I'd be in trouble. I actually ended up not getting my contract renewed there, because I wanted to use my Linux laptop to write code on, instead of the little 13" macbook he insisted I use, my reasons? The coding interface I had for Linux was better than anything else out there, let alone for the Mac, the laptop was faster than the macbook, it had a bigger screen, a better resolution, it had a better keyboard and it was tuned to my liking, nope, use the macbook boy or else!

Oh and in case you missed this wherever else it was I said it yesterday on the forum, we're getting a 27" iMac in the new year, because it's one of the best machines out there. It's keyboard and mouse will be thrown away and I may cover up the Apple logo, but we're getting one.

Android for me..... The Apps are superb.... and my Xperia X10 is so much better than the windows Xperia X1 I had, I mean why have to go to Start programs > Phone on a phone ?

the xperia is an awsomme bit of kit, (android fan here) but if you would consider one, make sure you go for the 'xperia arc' which is he phone the x10 shold have been. the 'windows 7' to 'vista' if you like

Not everyone who uses or has an iPhone whatever model has one just because of good marketing by apple !

Its true that i myself have an iphone and an ipad but as far as apple goes thats it, i use it for the simplistic features and nothing else.

Although its also true that i'm an iPhone Junkie as per say as i've owned every model they've every brought out including the iPhone 4S.

I dont buy iPhones just because of marketing or because of extra features like Siri but mostly because i Just Like Them - there neat !

I did nearly switch a few months before to an HTC then i changed my mind.

I do really like the android phones and maybe one day i will go back to another style of device.

But features like bigger or better memory or camera megapixels doesnt get me as i say if you want to take a proper photo get an XLR or some other compact device.

As for the ipod features on it i have currently two albums loaded and both are to get my little one to sleep at night.

I use my iphone to its fullest, the simplistic way it just works is amazing, I've never had my iphone freeze, stutter or do odd things that i haven't made it do by doing silly things with it, kept with in its normal operating parameters it works flawlessly, you cant even brick the damn thing and god knows I've tried.

As for being ripped off, id agree if you purchased it brand new with no contract, but considering you can get a iphone 4s on contract FREE for £43 a month, thats only £13 a month extra than the galaxy s2 on the 3 network.

The build quality is excellent as well, my 3gs has been through the wars and still works, even got wet and it still works, been thrown against a hard floor where the lcd and the screen got smashed (thanks to my 1 year old little girl at the time), once replaced worked perfectly.

again, as mentioned, apps range in price from free to 49p all the way up to £39.99 for the tomtom app, but most sit around the 49p to £2.99 which is fine by me.

flash isnt the be all and end all, and even adobe realised this when they decided to not bother with flash any more for mobile devices, i can still watch youtube videos and any other video on the web thats encoded to.

i never got my iphone due to marketing, i got offered one and though i may as well. upgrading also doesnt cost anything to the next idevice, my mates had a contract on the iphone since the iphone 2, and every upgrade hes had so far hasn't cost him anything, and he even upgraded to the iphone 4s for nothing.

i went from a windows phone, to an idevice and i have to say i have no intention of going back any time soon. and i do not feel restricted in what i can do on it, seems to be a point that most none iphone users like to say, but in all honesty the restrictions do not really affect the end user, its more programmer / music producer related.

also i really do not care what apple are doing with suing people thats there choice, my choice as a end user is to use or not use the product and i have to say ive chosen to use it and i do not regret it.

this whole argument is pointless though, its down to personal choice, its almost as bad as the xbox360 (windows) vs ps3 (android) argument vs PC (apple), pointless, both systems do the same job, just in different ways, but PC stomps them  yet people still like to argue over it.

But you agree the reason you buy each iPhone is BECAUSE it's an iPhone? Not because you've seriously investigated every other viable option, tested them, researched them, compared them etc.

Only £13 a month than the Galaxy S? So the phone costs £150 more than the Samsung Galaxy S does then, not as you say, not costing anything more at all. The phone isn't free mate, it's paid for within the contract. I pay £40 a month for my contract, but that's because I've got data bolt ons, international bolt ons, etc. etc. My actual contract, which came with a free Galaxy S last December, is £23 a month + VAT.

I know, I got the X10 about 18 months ago and it's effing brilliant..... looking at getting either an Arc or a samsung Note as the upgrade in May..... decisions decisions....

pointless argument about price, cheaper doesnt mean better sorry mate, as everyone on here usually says, "you get what you pay for"

also i already know that everyone pays for the phone via the contract, 3 network do some of the best Internet packages around which for any smart phone is a must.

I didn't say cheaper meant better did I? I have given technical opinions as both a software developer and IT/Cloud engineer that both technically and physically the Galaxy S II with Android is miles in front of the iPhone and I've made a separate point that it's also cheaper, which makes more sense to me, of course if you want to buy an iPhone BECAUSE it's an iPhone, that's the choice you make :D

Forgot to mention, since you've gone down that route, I've managed to use my Galaxy S for over a year now without it glowing red and smoking whilst I'm on a plane, bursting into flames, dropping it's signal when I hold it with my hand :whistling: and I haven't managed to brick mine either, nor have I managed to crack the screen rather oddly, because there's a fair few occasions where it should have. lol

i didn't get an iphone just because its an iphone, now let me say that again, i didn't get an iphone because its an iphone. why the big push all the time an iphone related topic comes up to slate it? its a damn good device its as simple as that, i didn't get an iphone to get friends either, or for a social boost, i got one because it was offered to me as part of a deal, so though as it was free i might as well. and i have to say it was the best free device I've ever been given.

Its quite annoying when someone constantly tries to throw it down your neck that you only have the iphone BECAUSE its an iphone when the reality is, most people have an iphone because it just works and doesnt complicate matters.

and thats the point in any idevice, its to do with high end functionality vs ease of use, and the iphone does that brilliantly.

Every phone since the iphone has just basically copied it, yes apple copied a few things for the iphone, of that i have no doubt, but no one but apple decided to roll all of those ideas into the one device before and make it work so simply and thats why it succeeded. it didn't get a good reputation by its self, it wouldn't matter how good the marketing is, if it was flawed people would of known about it, just like the camera got bashed, and the fact apple didn't allow flash on the device, but they are not detrimental to the use of the phone for what it does and does well.

You can pick fault with the iphone, but not on many levels, but then every phone has its downfalls.

Dude, I haven't actually said "Ian, you clearly have an iPhone BECAUSE it's an iPhone". I said that to Jaikai, because he openly admitted he'd just bought one each time a new one came out, basically because he knew he liked it and didn't want to bother looking around, which is fine.

You're getting all upset and defensive over the thing, and yet you're not a fanboi or a zealot of any kind and you don't have an iPhone JUST because it's an iPhone. I'm not ramming anything down your throat either, just banter mostly, but you seem to be getting upset, just like a zealot does when you insult apple. :(

As for what Apple did mate, they took the idea of a 'smart phone' which already existed, for a LONG time before they got involved, then they removed MOST of the functionality from the idea of a 'smart phone' (The original iPhone barely did ANYTHING, I'm surprised it made calls!), then made it gloss black (or white, or both I can't remember) and marketed the shit out of it, as a result, it became known as something 'new' when it wasn't even slightly.

I remember me and a bunch of other IT engineers at the time in NZ, all taking the piss out of this one engineer called Suresh, who was a proper pretty boy, drove a brand new M3 (As in he bought a new one every year), always perfect hair, fresh from the salon, got his nails done etc. Not gay, just a proper pretty boy, who went and camped out for 2 days to get his hands on one of the first iPhones, then was HUGELY disappointed, that it did less than his old Palm device did. Then as if by magic (It wasn't magic it was marketing, the phone was the worst phone on the market and that's a FACT, not opinion), it became the most popular phone in history and the iPhone revolution crap began.

think your getting all around the other way bud lol

You defend android like theres no tomorrow. im not a apple fanboi, ive already stated that both devices are just as good. ive also stated its a pointless argument lol

:tt2:

Find me a post where I needed to defend Android? I think you'll find I haven't done. Certainly not today. It isn't a pointless argument either unfortunately, it's a very meaningful one, the world is driven by marketing my friend, if it wasn't it wouldn't exist. Does Coke actually taste any better than all of it's rivals, or did we try Coke first because it was marketed the best, Santa Clause drinks it and it's in a shiny red can?

EDIT: On that note, I discovered something yesterday that blew me away. Go look up what colour Santa Clause outfit was until Coke began advertising him in a Red suit back in the 50s in the states. ;)

Yeah because they chose them? Says more about the keeper being so brainwashed by marketing that he's waiting for the iPad 3 to come out, so that the iPad is virtually worthless (His own words near enough), so he could buy more. Why, if he's not actually giving them to the orangutans, does he not go buy a £50 tablet from best buy, with Android on it? They can still touch it, play with it, watch videos etc. I bet he's either a Mac Zealot, or just lives in an area that Apple have marketed REALLY hard in the states. It makes absolutely NO sense, for a charity to go buy an iPad, when they could buy something half the price to do EXACTLY the same job for those monkeys, ridiculous! And somewhat proves the point of the day to be honest.

:innocent:

I made a suggestion of Android, how is that defending it? lol Clutching at straws I think.

not at all, every time a thread comes up in anyway shape or form about the iphone / ipad / idevice

you constantly say about getting a android device, even when (as this thread is) the question is asking specifically about iphones.

So how is that clutching at straws?

Did I not state that just prior to this full debate again !

That still doesn't relate to me defending android, simply suggesting it, they don't advertise nearly as much. I'd be happy to chime in on any other phone OS's that were worth their salt, but most don't seem to be, it's literally iOS and Android are the only two worth having.

Did I not state that just prior to this full debate again !

So are you making a new forum rule now? That if it relates to Apple, in no way is anyone allowed to refer to anything other than Apple? Are we extending this to all brands? Or just Apple?
