wonder if anyone can help every now and again i get like a loud humming noise when i accelerate it doesnt happen all the time and if i back off the throttle it stops right away, id say once out of every 7 or 8 days i drive it

it had the crank seal done a few days ago and therefore had fresh gearbox oil and the old stuff was cherry red not burnt and black so im thinking diff but cant be sure as it doesnt do it very often anyone else had similar problems?

i would say if it was the diff it would do it everytime you drive it.... where does the humming noise come from??

not really sure it sort of reverberates through the cabin its odd? id have thought the same but im struggling to think of any other possible causes

does it do it as you come on boost? could be goose honk caused by the OEM recirculating dump valves as the spring starts failing. you wont hear it on idle or when revving the engine while standing still, you only get it when your driving and even then not all the time.

that is unless you have a N/A in which case it would be something else lol

As Vods says, goose honk from the recircs......... Unless it is the prop shaft uj's or centre bearing.

ill see if i can get a recording tomorrow for you, though not sure how well it will come out due to my exhaust lol

could it be the rubber boot for the gear stick ?....

I know that if the boot is loose on my manual then you can hear a lot of road/gearbox noise... not sure if the auto is the same.

Could be gearbox mount? - Not saying it is but I had the symptoms you describe and it was my gearbox mount.

my mechanic had the box out only 2 weeks ago and didnt mention anything about the mount being shot

its not like a road noise its like a loud humming difficult to describe really lol

Is it better or worse when the car is cold (from start up) to hot (car fully warmed up)

difficult to say it doesn't get worse it just happens once in a while plus i only give it the beans when its warm

well as soon as i hear it i let off the throttle then if i put my foot back down again its usualy gone although a few times if i drive it really hard for a while then it stays for a bit so i ease up and it goes, although it only ever does it when i boot it never when im crusing or accelerating gently

This does sound either prop related or goose honk to me. Check the propshaft centre bearing and uj joints.....Albeit it is hard to check the uj's on the prop when fitted, can only tell when removed. If all ok, maybe a wheel bearing. If not deffo the recircs are fubarred, either change or get some dump valves in place of the recircs.

Easy, but fiddly......

Nose panel off, air filter off, maf off, then just get ur arms in there matey with some dumpy screwdrivers and dumpy spanners.
