Today was the Geddington Volunteer Fire Brigade's annual squirt against the Local fire brigades. It is a good laugh, raises money for the Fire Benevolent Fund (this year about £300).

 

The GVFB (http://www.gvfb.org) is a charity that helps out residents of the village and raises money for good causes. The idea of the squirt is to knock a suspended beer barrel over the opponents side of the river, best of five.

 

This year we won 4-1, even after cooking the engine of our 1950 fire engine!

 

It’s great fun for all, if not a little wet and there is always the pub afterwards (hence our logo).

Looks fun! Bet you were glad it is so mild this year, don't fancy that in the icy conditions of previous winters!

Last year was so cold we had to break the ice on the river, chip it from the ford and then found our engine and pump were frozen so had to borrow a portable pump from Kettering Fire brigade. Pictures of last years squirt are here http://gvfb.org/2011/01/2010-boxing-day-squirt/
