will see if i can get over for timing light before weekend. May need to borrow a standard pulley tho too as ive not got one anymore.

Cheers mate.

That's no problem Dave.

after removing all the plugs i have fuel in cylinders 1,2,4 and dry in 3,5,6. So am thinking maybe injectors blocked.

Not happy about having to retake plenum off but needs must.

Lets hope then it will work.

Doesn't this mean half the engine is fuelling correctly and half is not?

Blocked fuel rail half way along?

Or is it 2 separate fuel rails and you haven't connected the second one?

Injectors not sat on rail properly?

Checked joins in the looms, from memory the ecu loom joins to the engine loom near where it goes through the bulkhead???

Also the 2 engine bay looms join somewhere near the engine bay fuse box?

I was working till 10, but got a half day holiday so finished at 6.

Well thankyou to chimp02 and donnyzx who came over tonight to try get car sorted, on a good side consult found no faults but on the bad side after a compression test we found some very bad news.

Cylinder 1 - 75

2 - 60

3 - 80

4 - 65

5 - 45

6 - 95

So problem with starting found.

Put battery on charge and dropped some oil down cylinders. In morning gonna see if it starts and hope that the problem actually lays with the tappets being siezed(heads have been stood for 3yrs).

Then if it starts will leaving running for a few minutes, turn it off, let it cool for a hr and dingers crossed try it again.

thats some very low compression there bud, is it a TT or N/A? minimum from nissan is 142psi with no more than 14psi between cylinders

Doesn't sound like sticking lifters to me, sounds like the piston rings are not sealing correctly.

What did you do to this engine in the 4 years it wasn't working?

I take it you don't need that PTU, as I've just changed mine to the S2 i had.

with the oil in, you should redo the compression test see if it improves, if it doesnt then it could be valves or valve seats

Problem is with such low compression across the whole 6 cylinders, id be inclined to believe its actually something to do with the head gasket, piston rings.

No mate i probably wont need it, but if you've already sent it i'll send it bk and cover your costs for it.

The gasket is,a brand new cometic one from z1.

The engine was a complete one that ive only used the bottom end and it was bought off a member on here and the heads were mine that were proffessionally rebuilt at speedfreaks in castleford but have been stood for 3yrs.

Did you check the compression on the block before ripping it apart to use? still think its piston rings, unless when they put the lifters in they didnt drain them first as they should come in a bag of oil and need to be emptied at the time of fitting, unless they are solid lifters.

No didnt do a compression check when i got it as i dont have one.

If its the rings and i need to restart again im gonna strip the car and end my days with zeds.

I need a car on the road now and dont have enough left to restart again.

you want to be putting diesel in the boars this will decoke the Rings alowe them to move again to seal

Piston rings, low compression on all cylinders, yep thats a bottom end rebuild, Z1 motor sports do OEM piston rings though if your doing that, may as well go eagle conrods and wiseco pistons.

Even with that low compression it should still start eventually, bare in mind your not sure if it flooded so it may be bore washed which would explain the compression figures.Get it up and running first before condemning it.The lifters will take a while to prime up so the valves may not be opening properly.dont give up yet.How are you supposed to strobe it with no timing mark on the damper?.Put the stock one back on,set to tdc then mark the engines position, put car in gear too hinder the engine turning.Refit the underdrive pulley, check you engines not moved off tdc then mark new pulley.

Fingers crossed when she cools down she will restart properly. Just had it running for 30mins :-)

Tappets have quietened down alot too so hoping its on a winning streak, lol.

Sounds like you're on a winner there mate, if the tappets have calmed down and you kept it running for 30 minutes, that should be plenty of time for the oil to circulate, things to open up and re-seal themselves (Rings) etc. You'll have to bring it up here if you get it back on the road :D

Left it for 45-50mins (couldnt wait any longer, lol) and she fired up 1st time.

True test now is whether it fires up when left to go cold, so will try again in morning.

At the moment im as happy as can be.

You wont have to wait till the morning matey, they cool down pretty quick out there in this weather, just leave the bonnet up if its not to windy and let it cool quicker
