any one help please put a bulb in the courtesy light got it slightly twisted then the radio went off and the courtesy light indicator on the dash now glows dim even with the door shut

if u open the door the clock goes off and the 2 map lights start acting up the courtesey light now not working

found this post mine exacty the same any help please

It all started when my main interior light blew. When changing it there was a spark.i put a new bulb in and it still doesn't work. I checked the fuse and all was ok. That is not the confusing part..... now when i get in the car the light that warns you the doors are open stays on and the digi clock goes off. When i switch the map lights the clock comes on and the light on the dash goes off. Also my stereo now doesn't work. As i said i checked all the fuses and they are ok. Have i damaged a relay somwhere or could i have caused an earthing fault. I cant work it out because the power is at every instrument but it then seems to fade away in about 5 secs. Any idea's?????

The courtesy light fades on a time delay after a few seconds so this will answer your last statement, but how to cure your issues I just don't know but re trace what you have done as it started from the room lamp or could this just be coincidence

Re check and pluck all your fuses as it is easy to miss one :thumbup1:

Also, test your bulb is fine on the bench.

Not sure what you mean when you say slightly twisted??

Finally, pull out the door contact switches and have a look there.

I had a similar weird problem.

I bought the car and discovered I had no interior lights, no biggy I figured, should an easy fix...one I'd do after Winter.

After some time I noticed that the 'door ajar' light would randomly come on and off (the light on the dash could be turned on and off with the map lights!), sometimes it would just remain on, but very dim. This all caused the the alarm to go crazy as it wasn't sure if the doors were open or not. The Climate pod would never remember its settings, I almost always had to set the temperature and everything after the engine off. Still had no interior lights. Clock had a mind of its own...

After trying so many things it turned out that I had a missing fuse (not blown, just totally missing!) and also an earth that hadn't been connected properly. Fixing the earth sorted the clock and pod 'memory', the rest was sorted by inserting a fuse!

The fuse in question was in the drivers footwell, it the one for the interior lights / door ajar chime and Ariel, maybe something else too that I don't remember.

I still find it hard to believe that a missing fuse can cause weird electrical problems like it did. I'd actually stripped the fuse box down expecting it to be soaking wet though dodgy drain tubes (of course it was bone dry)...

Nothing is coincidence on a 300zx, they spite you for your tinkering

What are you saying, a number of the cars previous owners could well of botched up maybe some wiring

id start at the with were the problems started did they start after you changed the interior light or when you started poking around in the fuse box or maybe when you changed the indicator bulb shorts can be a massive headache to nail down so if it all started from the interior light pull it out and have a good look at all the connections/solder joints/wires.

in my experiance its normaly something simple like a frayed flex or loose solder joint

got it sorted lads thanks really simple blown fuse just me panicing over nowt really

Good to hear, footwell fuses are terrible to access, torch, picker, on your side, etc, extremely difficult to view them in situ to see which are blown as well :cursing:
