I'm sure Halfrauds cocked up the grey mix as it looks darker than the other did but it won't matter once the silvering is on there... will be done within the next few hours :)

AWESOME! Thanks for that, got to love Kiwi Hilux Ads. Over here they don't even advertise it, but if they did I think it'd be just advertised as some luxury 4wd :(

Just for everyone elses benefit, this is the sheep shagger one:

:gun_bandana: :offtopic: ... who cares, it's fun :D

The absolute best thing about NZ, is a place called Whakatane, which the English and the Aussies call Wack-a-tane and the kiwis and people who pronounce it properly call f-uck-a-tan-ee oh and of course, Whakapapa, which of course, is actually pronounced, f-uck-a-papa :D Such an awesome place. I almost want to go back lol

ROFL I'd forgotten all about that one!!!! That has both of us in stitches!

I picked up from another post that you backpacked around NZ right? Spot on mate! :D As an IT person, my favourite argument was always that a router is pronounced root-er, not rowter. :D

Yeah did over 5 years backpacking around, 2 1/4 of them im NZ, most of that being in Queenstown! Epic fun to be had there!

What were you guys doing out there?

I used to go snowboarding at Whakapapa, nice little mountain that if you're lucky enough to get a day when there is no cloud and can actually see where you're going :scared: Im literally going to be to be carrying my snowboarding gear around everywhere with me this winter, I have serious withdrawal symptoms!

LOL, we moved out there to live. Lived most places between Paihia up north and West Auckland, we most enjoyed living on the north shore tbh, funnily enough on a road called Rosemary Avenue :D

I know Paihia, nice place but I think you need a boat to fully appreciate it! How come you moved back? Bit like living in the UK 20 years ago?

tbh we weren't enjoying ourselves. The world economy tanked and NZ got hit pretty hard. We had our own IT business out there, which was still building, but doing okish, then basically everyone suddenly stopped buying, cancelled all projects and closed all their doors, so trying to earn money was a complete nightmare. We moved to a quieter area in the hope of just doing whatever basic work came our way, bar work or whatever, but that wasn't happening. The final straw really, was when I was looking for work back in Auckland again and a Scottish recruitment guy I was dealing with in Auckland, advised me to come home. His theory was basically "I can't put you forward for a job, because you're not a Kiwi! Even if you're 3 times more qualified than a kiwi, you WON'T get the job right now".

There were other issues as well, but I really don't want to bash NZ, as although we didn't have a good time there, especially in the last couple of years, there is a lot about the place that I like and the real reason I suppose, is just that it isn't a big enough economy and the tech out there just isn't strong enough for me as a 3rd line IT engineer, to keep me interested. There were times in NZ that we found it hard to even live with basic requirements, when feeding your kids becomes an issue, you have to look elsewhere I suppose.

Yeah very different situation when you got kids to feed, i'm doing alright as i only gotta look after myself.

My father is in IT and still barely making a bean. People here just dont want to pay what the job is worth, companies seem to think 80NZD p/h is expensive... its like they think he magically comes in and just knows how to fix it. they dont seem to grasp these things have to be learnt.

Hes looking at getting work for another company rather than being on his own but one guy said to him, look i shouldn't say this but you're too old, they want the young guys out of uni they can pay peanuts...

Fact is NZ has the biggest gap between middle class and the rich in the OECD for the last 20 years.

I'm considering Germany as an option eventually.

I'm considering Germany as an option eventually.

Make sure you can speak the language very well mate or you may find it difficult over here, I've lived here just over 3 years and you have to be able to speak perfect german to succeed outside of an English speaking community.

All NZ really needs is more people, get more people in there and you instantly grow the economy, at which point the rich/poor divide becomes much smaller, spending goes up, wages go up etc. The stupid thing about NZ, is it's one of the nicest places on the planet, with some of the highest costs for living, yet one of the lowest wage rates.

Don't get me wrong, before we started the IT company I had a decent job as a 3rd line IT engineer doing data forensics, cisco networking, IBM blade server installs etc. etc. and I earned ok, but tbh I got paid no where near what I do now and the job I have now requires me to be far less stressed and doesn't require nights and stuff (You can't rip off a hard drive during the day ;)) When we started the IT company we did ok, got a few projects, a couple of maintenance customers, some hosting customers, etc. Then it just all went down hill. Ironically the IT company only got started, because I saw the type of jobs coming into the one I was working for, dropping considerably in price and severity, I saw the projects drop off etc. but I put it down to the company failing, not the recession that was just ahead, so I jumped ship. It's a good thing I did, as the IT company died shortly after the recession, same as my own did, having stock to sell off and the odd trickle of custom was better than working a job for someone else and getting made redundant with no redundancy pay etc.

With reference to the wobble that was warned about, it does look a little like it's wobbling, but if I'm honest, so does a normal viscous fan, I think it's an optical illusion caused by the fact these things are not exactly precision engineered, because just about every viscous fan I've seen has looked as though it's wobbling, I have a feeling the 2 tone paint is adding to the illusion as well tbh.

Looks great when it's running, kinda like when you see an aeroplane propeller that has white tips and red base to the prop paddles, you can see the tip spinning around making a circle :D

Looks good mate. Glad its ok, i just thought it best to let u know what happened to mine just incase.

Defo dude, thanks for the headsup, I'll be keeping an eye on it for a while, lol.

mine doesn't :tt2:

I bet it does, look at it side on when it's spinning, I bet it 'appears' to wobble a little bit.

nope, not a bit. It's like me; Perfect

Honestly though, mine doesn't look like it's wobbling at all. Maybe if they are cracked at the hub a little, it may allow a bit of movement, but I'm just guessing here.

Did you go outside and look at it after reading this thread or have you previously obsessed over it? Because there's no way you'd know off the cuff that your viscous fan doesn't appear to wobble, lol.

I've spent two years rebuilding my zed and know every part of it, trust me my fan don't wobble :detective:

Oooooh statements like that require video evidence :D

OMG ... wobbly fan youtube war anyone?

:)

nah, trust me i've got ocd when it comes to things like that. If it had wobbled even slightly I would have bought a new one. It's cost me a fortune on parts that I didn't really need
