Can't really help with your main question but i will say, before you remove the timing belt mark it and the cams with twink so when ya put it back together ya just line it back up and away ya go, also the water inlet pipes on front of motor, dont use an ordinary allen key, get a bit you can put in the end of a socket, hit it in with a hammer, then hit it about 50 times to shock those bolts loose then lean on them.

I don't know where you are at but thought i'd throw some input none the less.

In theory you could probably get away with dropping off the exhaust and leaving the headers and turbo's on the heads and pull them out with the motor still in the car. but its alot of fiddling around and it only take 2 hours to pull the motor.

know all too well about the front pipes and engine out, i just dont have the room to get the engine out and strip it. ive already got 2 engines and 2 gearboxes clogging up my garage.

i know how to strip everything off from the engine, but ive never taken the VG30DETT apart before. done a HG on a VW gold mark 2, but thats a straight 4 which is easy to get to the head bolts.

its either i fix this stupid bloody overheating or i just say bugger it and crush the car. getting to my wicks end with it all due to a failed thermostat thats just caused loads of stupid problems, already changed the thermostat twice, water pump, radiator flushed the system as best i could plenty of times till the water ran clear and i still have a overheating problem. so its most likely a fooked HG.

mate, is it time to save up a few pennies and take her over to see Jeff and Jamie? I just feel for you as every zed you have seem to present one issue after another and as soon as you sort one issue another pops it's head up to crush your spirit a bit more..

Sorry dude, I just hate to see you lose your mojo.

Could be as simple as rotted water pipes off back of motor or the water lines that run off to the throttle bodies have perished, pretty common, wish i could be of more help but i havn't pulled a head yet.

the red one i had before this was fine apart from the body work, with the amount of cash ive thrown at this one, i could of had the body work sorted out on the red one.

im just fooked this side of the year for doing absolutly anything like unless i do it my self.

Pretty sure the heads come off with the cams etc still in place, so one less job to do there :cool2:
