December 2, 201114 yr Hi all, While the UK nursed their hangovers yesterday the Army were soldiering on till this happened. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the crew are fully ok. Early reports are massive mechanical failure and it burst into flames on touch down. Bit of an eye-opener. December 2, 201114 yr Good to see no one was hurt, much respect from me for the men and women who risk their lives everyday for our frredom, these are the people who should be knighted, given honours and have gold plated pension schemes
December 2, 201114 yr Definitely. If you serve in the forces, it should be like it used to be, you were guaranteed a job when you came out, guaranteed a decent pension when you retired and you had the respect and admiration of everyone back home.
December 2, 201114 yr Author Used to be mate, support from the public is a lot better now thankfully. Unfortunatley my pension is under review and there is nothing I can do about, even strike LOL. Benefits are being cut with the goal of cutting completely and we are down for a further 2-3 years of pay freeze on top of the 3 we have had already. Not a good time.
December 2, 201114 yr See this is one of the few areas I disagree with the current government cuts. Defence is not an area we should cut, we shouldn't be scrapping a fleet of working planes, or a ship that still works perfectly well, or laying off soldiers etc. etc. We also shouldn't be laying off nurses and doctors at such an alarming rate or cutting their pay or pensions either. I think the public sector should be split out into two different sections, the Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, NHS, etc.) and pencil pushing Servants (Dept for Work and Pensions, Middle men within the NHS, Councillors, Council staff, etc.) It isn't fair that people in the army, should be treated with the same disrespect as the idiots, who say you're not entitled to housing benefit when you've got two kids and just lost your job because of a recession they caused (This doesn't apply to me btw, but have heard the stories). I always wanted to join the REME when I was growing up, got turned away at 16 because of a knee injury I sustained playing Sunday League football and ended up in civi street permanently. :(
December 2, 201114 yr Author we shouldn't be scrapping a fleet of working planes, or a ship that still works perfectly well, or laying off soldiers etc. etc. :( Selling the entire Harrier fleet to the Americans for a rumoured million pounds is a prime example.
December 2, 201114 yr That's the exact fleet I was referring to. Why the F£CK we would sell a fleet of working harriers is beyond me tbh. It's the most resilliant and versatile plane in the world, it still works, it's saved our skin more times than I care to go lookup and quote and we're just binning them basically :( These rumours about paying the americans to protect us too, WTF is that? They invented friendly fire for one thing! Not to mention their own economy is fubar too, how they gunna protect us if they can't afford the fuel to fly here?

My little brother was in Iraq at the time they went on strike and they were flyign him back to work in the green goddesses... All wrong... He lost a couple of mates over there as well which did nothing for is state of mind... SUPPORT OUR HEROES.....
