fair point we all have our opinions and thats mine.

I'd quite like some answers in return to what i said... be good to continue the discussion...

i think you will find that is incorrect the cost of smokers and the long lasting effects easily costs more then the revenues brought in.

Nah he won't, think about this, there are over 30,000,000 smokers in this country who smoke 20 a day, £4.50 per pack on average is tax, times £4.50 by 30,000,000, then by 365, that's the annual tax revenue from smokers. Considering there are more than 80% of smokers who never have a smoking related illness and a further 10% who do, but have private healthcare (Ce moi), I think the taxes the government RAKES in from smoking, FAR outweigh any cost to the NHS for smoking related illnesses.

EDIT: Just realised I don't and have never had a smoking related illness, but I have private healthcare. You still get the point though.

EDIT2: I just put those rough figures through a calculator, that's £49,275,000,000 per year. Where would all that revenue come from if smoking was banned? You gunna foot the bill? :D

Ill get flamed or banned but so be it.

Whats needed.

1. Close borders How do you propose to do this? the same as austrailia. and start charging france for not doing bugger all there end.

2. Eject all illegal imigrants. sure if you can find them, i'm pretty sure they do that already they try, half the time they sit in a holding camp and fight the system, usually takes a good few years but most of the time it fails and they are allowed to stay.3. Stop paying benifits to lazy useless w%nkers and make them work as refuse collectors and other civil service duties to cover the cost of there benefit (TRUST ME they will soon get off there asses and find a job in the private sector.Ignoring the fact that people already have these jobs so you have to create more work before they can take it, thats borderline an undermining of civil servants... Ignoring the afore mentioned, i'd love to see what happens with the crime rate, then again you could make them police officers as they are technically civil servants Not enough jobs for everyone out there at the moment top that off with a lot of older people being laid off and then age discrimination when applying for a job, didn't help when businesses sold out to overseas companies and those companies upped sticks and moved.

4. No free heathcare for migrants that have not contributed to national insurance for at least 3 years. Okay, so instead of basic healthcare to stop thier condition getting worse, you'd rather they get really ill and take up hospital beds? Can't just leave them to die, humanity it's a ******* i know they dont get free health care anyway, clearly stated in the waiting room of my local GP that they are not covered by the NHS.

5.You wanna come into the country fine BRING YOUR OWN MONEY, proof of 10k in the bank before letting anyone in. So take money from thier economy to boost yours? they do it too us. there is a ethnic minority (not going to say which one) that frequently works its ass off over here then sends the cash back to the homeland.

6. Automatic 1 year Jail sentences for uninsured drivers. Would you like some polish for that iron fist autosol do?

7. Eject our overcrowded convicts living the high lives with playstations and xboxes and 3 meals a day from the tax payer paid hotels and put them on the front lines, bring our heroes home to be with the families. Yeah until the convicts go awol because thier country that locked them up has now sent them to be shot at bring back the death penalty for the most heinous crimes, put prisoners to good use like the old chain gangs and get them fixing the road network, im sure with the amount of prisoners we have the M25 and M1 will be fixed in no time.8. Withdraw from the EU and stop paying 30 million a day or what ever the stupid price is and get our power back from Brussels. I'm pretty sure you're going to need the EU very very soon doubt it, its more scaremongering, what Britain needs to do, is get away from brussels and its bloody stupid human rights laws that are crippling the UK, start becoming a major exporter and get more UK businesses back on board that are ran by British people.

9. Stop pussy footing around with no smoking and white packets and under the shelf rules and just BAN FAGS..... It's a free world and healthcare is covered in the high taxes on them, so people are free to do as they please, there is no deficit from it, infact governments make a profit which funds other healthcare amongst other things im a smoker, i dont force my view on you too smoke, and as a smoker i pay way more taxes than those who do not. also where are you going to off set the tax loss from banning fags?

not sure if you get the point but im sure ive missed some....... Ill get my coat........ If you are going to propose all these things there are those that will disagree, it's called an opinion of which you are entitled to just like anybody else, it's a bit naff to mention the possibility of a ban just for having an opinion

your not going to be banned lol

Re read fella I have just did it in the quote

You sir are a man of class, distinction and valour.

Interesting to see what is going on over there, i cant exactly divulge into the nitty gritty myself as i'm not from the UK, in saying this i commented to the best of my knowledge/general opinion that is not specific as it doesn't really need to be.

Autosol will do.

in a nut shell, everything's going to shit.

i support clarkson as well on this, they should of protested about something that effected everyone equally like the cost of fuel duty, rather than being greedy barstwards and only rallying for them selves.

It's all over now, he's apologised and they've accepted it. Just like when he rammed the Toyota into the village tree, except he's now banned from that village forever! :D

tbh i agree with him for the most part i think its outragous that the work shy can earn 30k from popping out sprogs and that tube drivers earn a frankly stupid and unwarrented 38k for doing a job a trained monkey could do!!! BUT my mrs is a nurse she works 12 hour shifts litteraly saving lives (shes a cardiac nurse) and the shit she has to put up with makes me sick she recently got kicked in the face by a dementia patient that they couldnt restrain or siddate because of human rights laws, they had to lock themselves in an office because a group of gypsys had come into the ward and wouldnt leave!!!

and for putting up with all that and more besides she earns £24500, well below the uk average the only thing that makes her job worthwhile is her good pension at the end of it, im not saying keep ALL the pensions but leave the nurses alone for christ sake because with out them who would we turn to when we really need help

I guess all im saying is dont tar everyone with the same brush, and dont take the NHS for granted

i agree !! my mrs is also a nurse, they should be on twice what they are for what they do. 14hr shifts and every body fluid u can imagin ,and worse. attitude, abuse etc....its discusting

I'm a student nurse, I've just stepped off the NHS pension scheme to retrain, if they change the pension scheme from the final salary scheme to the new proposals then frankly, I'm better off putting my money in a case under the bed. I'm taking a late career change (I'm almost 40) so will need that final salary scheme pension to ensure that whilst I'm working my arse off looking after an ageing population with failing health, and hopefully getting fast-tracked to management, given my previous experience, that my pension will be based on my final salary.

I'm not asking for much, given that nurse's salaries are woefully low given the level of responsibility and type of work that's entailed. I entered this profession because its something I've known I've wanted to do for a long time and because it plays to my strengths as a human being. Its a sad state of our society that people who choose this career won't get paid in their entire working life won't amount to one week's wages for a top premiership footballer or someone who looks pretty and mimes to music on stage a few times a year.

If you take away incentives like decent pensions, then professions like nursing will lose staff in droves - its hugely tiring job, emotionally, physically, mentally, and I don't think its reasonable to ask that nurses and other hard working public sector workers should pay double the pension contributions for less pension at the end of their careers.

Just my opinion, I'm prepared to defend it to the hilt though. For the record, I think Clarkson is a total dick - always have, always will, he's a misogynistic tit, but clearly his "rant" yesterday was tongue in cheek - he's still an odious prick tho :tt2:

i know what will fix this poor excuse of a 'country'. appoint clarkson leader.then Cival War. worked for the americans.lol

Was Jeremy Clarkson US president before or after Bush senior.....I can never remember? :tongue_smilie:

100% with you personaly i think nurses should be ringfenched as most of them are caring people as lets be honest its not well payed/glamorous or easy, and i also think its wrong and vile that people who dedicate their lives to helping others are payed a fraction of someone who kicks a ball around on some grass for an hour and a half a week and not just payed less but actualy RESPECTED less. makes me sick tbh

Thats the world we live in though, you only get paid the big bucks if you are making money for somebody else, ie footballers music artists etc...

If you are a government employee/ civil servant/ taxpayer funded etc.

You're always going to only get a pittance.

i know just think its wrong is all and its the respect that really annoys me tbh i just think the worlds gone backwards

your gonna love this

i know of somneone who is quite high up in our civic centre, he was offered early retirement about 7 years ago at 50, given a large lump sum and a golden pension, he went to work for northumbrian water, he was there 6 month's then was offered back his old job at the civic centre with a new pension and benefit's scheme, he is still there now and is moaning about the pension cut's, the fooker is gonna have 2 pensions from the same place

his wife is a teacher and has just been given early retirment, given a lump sum and a golden pension, she went back to work the following week doing the same job as a supply teacher and is getting paid more for being a supply teacher

i know of a road sweeper (not sure of the correct term for this) he is on about £10.50 and hour and is on £17 an hour for working on a weekend, he make's his money in the bookies selling fag's and his boss has had so many complaint's and he just tell's them more or less "tuff"

is this fair, i dont think so, the morons were outside the hospital the other day blowing whistle's and shouting thing's, they were only there an hour and apperently they were seen in the pub down the road for the rest of the day

But you have to look at the bigger picture, final salary pensions just cannot be financed going which is why they have been removed from the private sector. Mine included. My Wife is a civil servant and her pension is fantastic. even she agrees it needs to be brought more in line with the real wold.

the answer is to pay people properly, pay them their worth, i.e. nurses, soldiers etc. this will attract quality people as it is an attractive job then. Pay peanuts - get monkeys.

Both of my brothers were squaddies and I feel were severely underpaid. my little brother is now secutrity in a hospitaland gets paid a pittance for dealing with these I will never work @ssholes..

ive not had a payrise in 2 years either, my final salary pension has gone, but I look at it that I am glad to have a job as lots of people cannot. but im not whinging about it and going on strike....

And this little tantrum from the private sector cost most people a days holiday or child working costs.. why do the private sector workers have to fund the public sector? Dont I work as hard? dont I deserve a good pension?

It did help the economy though, rather than standing on the picket line they went shopping.. a welcome boost to the economy...

I always avoid these types of discussions becasue it brings out the victor meldrew in us all...

I won't respond to all your points Kev as clearly we have very different viewpoints about this, BUT the reason the private sector has to fund the public sector is because its exactly that, PUBLIC SECTOR, funded by public money, ie taxation from everyone including those working in the private sector

i know just think its wrong is all and its the respect that really annoys me tbh i just think the worlds gone backwards

I can remember being involved in the Op Fresco fire fighter strikes in '97 and '02.

Nothing wrong with firemen asking for a pay rise in my eyes, but having been away on ops for 6 months and then being told just before you get on the flight home, that your leave has been postponed because firemen don't make enough from their second income....

Teachers/Nurses/Police/military etc are in my opinion under paid and over worked but I can't see it changing any time soon

Striking will make people aware and will drum up public support to a certain degree, however public support will inevitably dwindle and the government know this, so will just ride it out

your gonna love this

What the feck difference did it make where they spent the day? They weren't getting paid for work, they could've been painting the sky pink for all it matters. Being on strike doesn't make anyone a moron and it doesn't mean you have to be outside your place of work waving plackards either

Moron? I don't think so

God Im fuming

The books still have to balance...

The private sector is making all sorts of cut backs to survive and the public sector dont care? They want to remain in their unsustainable bubble? You know I have a lot of friends and family in the public sector because in the NE thats were most jobs are... but something has to give...

I also believe it should be illegal for nurses and firemen to strike, just like the soldiers and police.

90% of public sector workers would not make it in a job outside of the public sector.

im not bothered if your fuming, they were jumoping in the road blowing whistle's trying to get people to blow the horn in support, i was working over the road up the sacaffold and couldnt even hear what my boss was saying

they were in my eye's acting like moron's and if they were that bothered about their pension's and so forth they would have been on the picket line all day not swaning about in pub's

so get off your high horse and dont start getting arsey
