We just got a text from our 6 yr old son's school announcing that he is in the school nativity play as the inn keeper.

This is the first we have heard about a play at all but that's ok. His grandma takes him to school and back, has him (willingly and wantingly) in French lessons etc after school and I'm really pleased.

What the text said was "Michael is an Inn keeper in the play, please provide a costume to the school by the 1st Dec".

I think YAYE :D, got a costume to make, since the last one I made was a massive red pepper/capsicum lol :), but hang on... The next breath, your going to tell me I cant video or take photos of my own son in the play, in a costume I worked on incase another neurotic stupid parent takes offence that thier child MIGHT get caught in the picture :cursing:

It's just one of those 'world gone mad' things that makes my blood curdle. Nothing is allowed to be happy, normal or traditional any more is it?!

I feel like hand sewing some message in the costume - any ideas? :devil2:

Yes. Crazy as it is, I know it's a school rule and they are a bit of a stickler for it.

Funnily enough, I think this issue only surrounds nativity plays for the more extreme enforcement. His creche, for example, was one of the best deaf schools in the country (he's not deaf at all but now knows some sign language :) ), but for a high regarded institution, they didnt show the same pettiness when it came to his 'graduation' because they have given out all the pics on request themselves.

cant beleive a school would say that, it's just ridiculous, but i suppose it's the way of the world now

i wouldnt put anything on the costume, they would probably pull him out of the play and it would probably embaress him

Our school said we couldnt video for all the known political reasons and then afterwards said we could purchase a copy for a tenner??

work that out..

I'm sure you know I'm only joking Allan. I'll send him in proudly in the best I can put together in the time I have .

just... grrrrrr stupid world lol

It is stupid, but its been like this for a few years now.

I heard it from the other side of the world while in New Zealand for 5 years out of his 6 yrs. There was some stupid court case that made all the schools paranoid. I'm hearing from friends and experiencing the reality for the first time. I'm sure all parents already hit the roof about it long before me here.

Combined with Ian's link to the Telegraph (thanks :)), it's yet another thing blown out of proportion to make money/rip you off then.

I say 'rip off' because I don't have anything against anyone earning money, god knows, I give the school whatever I can, but to do it under false assumptions and pretences is the classification of 'rip off' to me. The excuse of one or two sensitive nutcase parents doesn't wash on me, they have to learn to live with the fact others do exist.
