Leather help.

My interior is out while im having welding done. The black leather seats are in good condition, but have a few deepish scratches, not through the leather more like the black of the leather if that makes any sense.

I have been looking at dye's to hide these, as in fill the scratch, and buff to match. dont want to have to redo the whole seats, anyone have any recommendations on stuff used.

Hi Sussex Stu.

I have recently been in contact with these people, http://www.gliptone.com/

They seem to know what they are talking about and assured me that they would have know problem in colour matching etc'

Might be worth a look.

I had the same problem with my black leather seats, they were dry and had light coloured 'cracks' on them and I got a kit from a place called The Furniture Clinic (they have a shop on ebay as well as a website).the kit came with a deep cleaner that cleans and opens the pores in the leather and a re-colouring balm the re-colours and softens the leather, a sponge applicator, buffing cloth,a pair of gloves for the balm (dyes your hands otherwise) and instructions.iirc it was about £35 with postage.

I wasnt sure what it would be like, but was really impressed with it as it made a 100% difference to the look and feel of the seats and the more you use it the darker they become, as I had to do two applications.the cleaner really removes a hell of a lot of dirt, and once the re-colouring balm has had 5 minutes to soak in and the seats are buffed the difference is unreal, but I will say you need quite a few cloths as it takes a fair bit of buffing until no excess black comes off, though I think they also do a sealer that holds in the colour as well.

I havent tried other kits but can really recommend this one from personal experience.they do a wide range of colours, can custom mix colours, and if it doesnt work and you need one of their other products they will refund the price off your next order if you return any unused balm. :)
