What the hell is this???

Hi guys,

After fitting all the suspension bits I decided to finish a job I started.... remove all the old speaker cables.

Came across this metal box (below). As you can see its fed direct from the ECU and ends up at a toggle switch. The switch was behind the panel under the steering wheel. I've toggled it and nothing happens. I have a thing about wiring so want rid of it.

could be a de-limiter, if its from the ecu

If it goes to the ECU, could be a switch to switch between 2 different maps, one aggressive and one normal for example?

That's what I'm thinking too..

Cheers for the thoughts guys. It looks like a standard ECU, so not sure.

Really must resist the urge to chop it out LOL

If you take the lid of the ECU you'll be able to tell straight away if it's a switching map chip doodah mate.

Just had another look, it is wired into the white box behind the main ECU. Dunno if that makes a difference?

Do you mean the one that has two plugs connected to it under the ECU?

That's your PS/hicas ecu. Don't know why you'd have a switch on that tbh?

i know what it is:)

its called a GAY box and this is how it works. whilst driving along you flick the switch. then when nothing happens you flick it again. after a few times you will become more and more CONFUSED. the more confused you become the gayer YOU are

That explains a lot about you then mate :whistling:

Haha no chance of that with my wheel wobble, no wait I mean shake lol

I've found this at around 60mph with the spare set of 17's that I had to throw on temporarily last week (road works + rim + roundabout = bad times).

I figure that it's just a wheel balancing issue.....either that or my hubs are about to fall off!

Couldn't the lads in the LAD sort your wheel whobble for you before driving back to the UK?

No mate, I've just fitted adjustable suspension and couldn't get it aligned in time. It had a slight wobble between 40-60 ish but then nothing, not been above that yet so hopefully it will be ok. It's the lack of speedo that's the drama at the mo

I suppose you'll need the speedo for the MOT, if it was just for your own SA then a GPS set to mph would probably work, though I very much doubt the MOT guys would agree

Is it just a dodgy connection perhaps? I had this with an old Volvo, I lived with an intermittant speedo for about a year and then at MOT time the garage took a quick look, reconnected something and it all worked fine??

As for getting the alignment done, yeah I'd get that sorted as a priority, if nothing else you'll probably be trashing your tyres

Its all out the dash, will get onto it tomorrow as lost the light now. Alignment is booked in for Monday morning but will have to do the trip tomorrow, unfortunately I have no choice. Just hope I've tightened the adjustable nuts on the new arms enough lol

MOT doesn't require a speedo ;) If you have an android phone, download one of the many free apps that tells you the speed through your GPS, buy a phone holder and stick it in your window. It's not perfect, but should stop you getting pulled while you fix the speedo issue :D

OR.. following on from Hollows advice... stay at the speed of traffic. thats means go as fast as the car in front/ the car behind. It is against the highway code to cause an obstruction or to needlessly delay others.( my words-theirs are convoluted in comparrison)

Things are weird but if.. and I mean IF.. your lane is chocka and undertaking than you too must undertake/ if your lane is speeding then you too must keep to the speed.

Who really needs an indication of speed whan you have the car infront to lead the way! hahahahahaha
