Its not a Z unfortunately, but it would be nice if the 300zx had top mounted turbos!

We've just bought a Peugeot 307 HDI, there are some sooty deposits around the turbo but I'm not sure where it has come from, a message flashes up saying the depollution system is faulty and I'm not sure if this could be the cause?

Any ideas what it might be...? Any help would be appreciated, cheers mikey bean lol. :sweatdrop:

The error code most likely referes to the particulate filter (takes the soot out) there is a set proceedure for regenerating this, however if its not been done correctly it may need replacing or you could remove it and attempt a manual clean.

The soot in your pic could be caused by the extra back pressure and / or a faulty gasket.

Particulate filters are going to be the next big thing to drive used diesel car prices down, the replacement cost on some of the prestige marques is going to write them off!

Also a reason why some previous owners will sell them on without revealing the issue and pass the problem on to the new owner.

Wow that is fantastic guys, thanks for the assistance! there are no symptoms when driving and it appears to run correctly, so may have to get cleaning things out to try and sort it out as I dont want it to go into limp-home mode.

Is DPF the depollution filter?

I am enjoying the 65mpg and £95 a year road tax, makes me wish I went to the dirty diesel side sooner :whistling:

Thats shocking Jeff, Everyone is emissions-crazy nowadays but the more complicated these cars get the worse it becomes when trying to repair them.

See the Euro 4 emmision regulation for lorries in London is to be extended to passenger carring vehicles in the new year, will effect coaches and mini buses etc. failure to comply means a £200 per day charge to drive through central London for a coach and £100 for a mini bus, remember this is on top of the congestion charge.

You know the day is close that cars will be included in this so no Euro4 and means you cannot drive your own car in central London without paying a Kings ransom, my thought is what if you live in central London.......madness and most of this is due to regulation pressures from Brussel....argh!!!!

Maybe time to invest in a company manufacturing exhaust particulate filters?

That`s why i sold my van :)

Just had a thought, while the dpf goes through a regeneration it needs all heater plugs working correctly to help with the regen, so a faulty heater plug could stop it fully auto regenerating, check them first as it could be an easier and less costly fix.

You may also want to check your ELOYS tank which is the addative used as part of the regen cycle, this can be refilled but care is needed to fully bleed the air out or it will not work.

As Mikey said failure to deal with the problem will very likely cause turbo damage, once you have sorted the issue out make sure that at least once a month you take the car for a good exciting drive, its lumping around town that is causing early failure.

cheers guys I'll get straight on it :)

for 'regeneration' to occur you have to get a few parameters right. It'll want a high soaked temp in the exhaust/settled water temps/might want you at constant revs above idle- So motorways do have a use!!

Different regeneration from each manufacturer I'm suggest(On Nissan you force them & you could plug-in and read if the regeneration has or is occurring)

-BUT the difference DPFilteres make to you is when you never see a diesel pulling away trailing a black cloud of soot. ever again. and thats Brilliant :)
