Sorry phone playing up. Trick is prevention. Make sure you exfoliate every few days and use a moisturiser. Not very rufty tufty I know but I was a beauty therapist for years so it works for alot of people!

Waxing would last about 3 weeks and you will scream like a girl!!! But then the hairs come back with a fine tip so they are more likely to become ingrown

yep, as roobarb says, exfoliation in your answer as it'll clear dead skin that blocks the pores and help ease hairs out

Yup - that works for me too!! Julia is a beauty therapist as well and I was prone to the dreaded ingrowing whiskers until she got me following the advice above!

Richard:yes:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

has this forum turned into a womans column... lol...

Which is the best exfoliator then?

I use the number 7 face scrub usually but have just tried the new Gillette one which gets when you put it on your hands and face.. its excellent..

What are the other options?

Im sure Baz and Mikey Bean will have a field day with that one... lol

Wire brush and dettol for me :saddam:

Also works on piles. lol

I exfoliate everyday in the shower with my gloves, sweethearts, this is why I am still very beautiful looking

I dont know why you are shaving to the bone when you get grief from it, why not just clip your growth back with clippers and leave a bit of stubble, you are like me a handsome man and I am sure it will suit you

thanks for the reply's, maybe gonna change the way i shave and try some exfoliating and moisturising

anyone who suffer's this will know it can cause you to be self concious, it's not very nice to have big red patches on your neck

i will go to the doctor's as some other person said on another thread if other emedies dont work, but i know how doctor's and hospitals can be very busy so i thought i would ask on here as i know there would be someone who could help, after all it is in the GENERAL DISCUSSION and isnt distasteful at all

Allan you wet shave or use an electric razor?? I used to get this years ago as my skin really didnt like a wet shave, been using electric shavers for years now and never had any more probs. Granted you dont get as close a shave but I can deal with the trade off against skit irritations.

ive tried an electric shave but i dont like them, as you say it's not very close and i like it to be

i think with the colder weather and working outside it's showing more

the one i use is a philips one ill find the model but it has a gel aswell in the razor and as you shave it gels your skin at the same time its bloody brilliant, not a cheap razor though, wor an electric razor its a pretty close cut aswell tbh.

this is similar to mine

Have a hot shower (to open pores).

Leave face wet.

Apply shaving oil to beard/face. This will help the razor glide.

Use a damp, not sopping wet, badger brush to apply a large pea-size blob of shaving cream. 'Mr Taylor of Old Bond Street' is very good. Work it in. The badger brush takes care of the exfoliation - you'll have done most of it when you washed in the shower.

Use a double edge safety razor (eg. a Merkur http://www.traditionalshaving.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/traditionalshaving/_MER-9033001/268141/Classic-33C-Safety-Razor-Chrome) and shave in a vertical, downwards direction only. Rinse razor frequently as you go. You'll be surprised how little tugging there is compared to a multi-blade cartridge system. Let the weight of the razor do the work - and go carefully.

Rinse face in warm/hot water.

Lather up face again. You probably won't need to apply any more shaving cream to the brush.

Shave in a vertical, upwards-only direction.

Rinse face in warm/hot water.

Lather up face again.

Shave in a horizontal, outwards-only direction. Start in the middle of your 'tache.

Rinse face in warm/hot water.

Lather up face again.

Shave in a horizontal, inwards-only direction. Start over by your ear.

Rinse face with cold water (to close pores).

Pat face dry with towel.

Use a moistened styptic pencil http://www.traditionalshaving.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/traditionalshaving/_CYR-AFT-STY/-/Styptic-Pencil to seal any nicks or cuts.

Apply aftershave balm/lotion.

And you'll have the smoothest face you've had in years and a massive reduction in ingrown hairs. I've not had a single one since I changed to a safety razor. The above is known as the '4 Pass' system, for obvious reasons. Blades are about 10-50p each depending on what you get and each will last about 2-6 shaves depending on your beard and shaving frequency - much better than £s for a cartridge system. It's a nice little 'ritual' too, if you like that sort of thing.

See here for a guide:

I have the same electric razor Alan, it's called Phillips cool skin, brilliant razor mate, and leaves no razor rash at all.

THIS.

Granted i now have a short beard, but i used to get grief from my own face shaving it all the time. As long as you keep the hairs short with an "i-stubble" or something of that description they are no issue, works for me :D

thanks for the advice people, got some exfoliating wash from asda and some moisturiser, still using my gillette shaver and shave foam and so far so good, the rash seem's to have gone and there isnt so many ingrown hair's or spot's

ive also changed the way i shave to going with the grain as appose to against it, it's not as close but is helping

again many thank's, feel much better about it and i didnt have to waste any doctor's time so this really wasnt a distastfull thread like someone tried to say
