As the weather looked promising, I thought I would give the Zed a bit of a run up and down the by-pass a few times.

Couldn't help noticing a white VW hatch-back pick up my rear.:sneaky2:

Well I will soon loose him! or so I thought.:turned:

110mph came and went and I had only pulled a slight gap!:w00t: I did not plant my foot through the gears but never the less, I did still touch 6,500rpm through each gear.

Is my Zed tired or have I met my match?

I thought these cars were a bit more untouchable?

I know what you mean Coolg.

I got a bit carried away there.

As for my car being wack? I suppose it may be a bit tied now. As you say, may be time for a few mods.

As for the Golf, I think it may have been a R32 so to have stayed ahead of it would be some testimony to my Zed.

Golf R32:-

The 3.2-litre V6 engine in the Golf R32 makes it noticeably faster than the GTi. It’ll reach 62mph from rest in 6.5 seconds in manual guise and 6.2 when fitted with VW’s excellent semi-auto DSG gearbox. The speed of both models is limited to 155mph. The big capacity engine has lots of pulling power at low engine speeds, which makes for searing acceleration in all of its six gears. It also makes a nice boomy exhaust note with a racecar-like buzz when the car is pushed, but its all very quiet at a steady motorway pace.

It may have been the 2.0 turbo gti, a very tunable motor that could have been well beyond 300/350bhp. The forrunner to this, the 1.8t in the mk4 gti is considered one of the most tuneable engines in existance. I remember seeing a dog rough 96 pasatt, steel wheels, estate orange indicators etc. One thing gave it away though, the enourmous FMIC hanging out of its none front fog light bumper. My god did it move!

a local 300hp astra vxr got the launch on my Z when it was boosted and it kept walking away up to a silly speed. It's a gutting feeling. So there was nothing left to do but strip the Z within an inch of it's life... nothing was left in there lol. That made a big difference, nothing touched it since that point could happily pull away from some big bikes. The gf hates the stripped look and the dog needs a back seat so current car is fully laden :(

even with stripping everything, cant you only save about 100kgs??? 16 stone ish... wouldnt of thought that'd make that much difference..

power/ weight is everything, but come on chaps. not worth going to extremes just to win a drag race with a ' normal car '

if you really wanna win most/all the time, get big turbos. injectors. supporting mods, and have it mapped. then with 500HP odd and 480lb/ft torque + you shouldnt worry about anything really. :-)

oh yea, opt for lightweight alloys, as most dont realise just how bad unspring weight affects performance/ acceleration. big 18s are cool and look good, but big heavy 18 are literally holing the car down....

Do not get hung up about having the fastest car on the road - there will always be someone faster than you. Just choose your battles wisely and always expect to loose - that way you'll never be disapointed!
