I found this and was wondering if it's applicable to Zeds?

(it was regarding a part for a skyline but its exactly the same part, does this relate to the Engine Control Unit ECU , Gearbox ECU, ABS ECU:-

About ECUs

You will find on the market either ECUs sold singly; ECU + transponder; + key. If you find the full set: ECU (must be correct part numbers) with its transceiver and key (with transponder in) - you will be able to fully replace with your full set, without further programming of the ECU. But full sets are not always available.

If you buy the ECU on it’s own – it is usually transferrable but will need programming to match your vehicle’s security system. This will cost around £100 and needs to be done by an auto electrician using the correct software. Even though the ECU is transferable, you must still ensure the replacement ECU part numbers fully match yours.

There are usually two or more part numbers on any ECU – the manufacture (eg BOSCH, Siemens, Magneti Marelli, Ford, etc) part number and the car manufacture part number – there may be other numbers as well.

Earlier ECUs are uncoded and may simply be exchanged and will work fully without programming as they are not coded to the car’s security system. You must still ensure that the replacement part numbers fully match yours.

True or False?

Cheers

I know that on vauxhalls after a certain year you need the ecu, matching transponder(fits around the ignition barrel) and the chip thats mounted in the body of the key for the engine to run.iirc if you lose the key(and therefore the chip) a new one has to be reprogramed using Tech2 to match the ecu.

I know from experience that early v6 calibra ecus can be swapped as the ecu is non-immobilised,and later ecus support the transponder immobiliser feature.

I would say most manurfacturers do this in some way :)

oooooo thanks Dill, the plot thickens, Has anyone any experience of this in the years of Zed ever happening?... Traders/Breakers most likely to know?

Has anyone on here swapped various ECU's and had this problem?
