looking at my exhaust there are two braded lines going into the side of the cats. these lines then dissapear into the cabin though a rubber hole.

 

i assume they are sensors of some kind?

 

I have tried to find a reference for them but with no luck, so hence the post.

These are the cat temp sensors. They can be unscrewed and pushed up though the holes in the floorpan if the cats are removed.

are they required for the car to opperate correctly? need to remove the exhaust but i'm a bit worried about breaking the bolts that holds the sensors in as they are rusty.

 

do you know what page these connectors are on, inthe service manual?

As Andy said, this pic shows where they go (black box). Just unplug the connector mate. Won't cause you any problems :)

The only thing they do is light up the warning light on the dashboard, no connection to the ECU as far as I'm aware.
