I have noticed a small puddle of oil on my drive. I was dreading it to by my turbos but its not.

The back half of my oil sump is covered in oil and the the gearbox. So its coming from somewhere between the between the sump and gear box. Any ideas of what it could be. My dad said keep an eye on the oil level, which doesnt seem to be going down, and it will be OK as long there is oil in.

What can I do to find where its coming from?

clean it all off and drive around for a day, leave it parked over a white blanket and then get under it in the morning to spot the leak

could just be the oil sump or gearbox sweating

Stuart mate.

Could be the rear crank oil seal going.

Mine started like that.

There is a small drain hole on the bottom of the gearbox housing, check to see if that's where it's coming from.

Does sound like it.

Cheers Dave.

I know where its dripping from Dave. I was under there when I saw it drip. Do you know the flywheel cover I think it is, and it has that small square hole on it to allow stuff drip out. The hole is located on a small flat square piece on the gearbox. Thw gear box is cylinderical but for a small flat area at the front. That is where the oil is dripping from.

Do you recon its time to invest in some Warrenty?

Any one got any recomendations?

Hi Stuart

Yep that's the place allright.

The seal fron Nissan i think was about £19.

But it's a gearbox off job to replace it.

I'd just started to use Mobil 1 oil when it started. 0w-40w

Whether that was the reason or not i don't know for sure.

I just don't take the chance now and run Mobil 1 motorsport.

Cheers Dave.

None of my business, but while you are diagnosing don't forget the gearbox front seal - especially if its an auto. Could be worth checking with that blanket to see what type of oil it is on the floor?

But of a bugger taking the box out and not curing the leak...

Do you reckon using 15-50 oil to see if that will help.

Hi Stuart

I tried it mate and it was a waste of time.

I think once it has started leaking you'll not stop it.

I did try.

I figured that the Mobil 1 0w/50 was perhaps so thin that it might have caused it to start leaking.

Cheers Dave.

There is a slim possibility that your PCV's are blocked/sticking causing some crankcase pressurisation. This would definitely make it worse. Does the oil dipstick ever pop out ?

Does any one know the aproximate cost of what it will take to get a new seal put on?
