Making a list of winter projects to do and on it is rear hub removal.

Could anyone give a brief run through for me please?

(With pictures if possible)

Better still, if there is already a tech "how to" and if someone could post the link I would be grateful.

nice to see your still going at the refurb.

not to bad really. worst bit is getting the huge nut off the drive shaft.

basically undo the drive shaft nut first, disconnect the brakes, unbolt the suspension arms and the whole lot should come off. the bearing/hub is held on with 4 small bolts and one big one at the top

Hi Dougal200,

Yer, still at it.:whistling:

Managed to finally get her MOT'd in time for some fair weather running. Fun or what?:cool3:

Now that I am close to getting her sorn for the winter, I am penning a to do list. (Still some areas of welding also)

Thanks for the info by the way, I imagine I will need some sort of puller to get the hub off? Other than that, it sounds quite straight forward.

Sometimes, one side is easier than the other, with me, the passenger side was easy, the hub nut was very tight, but once undone, the drive shaft just popped out. The drivers side however, nope, the hub nut was stupendously tight, it took me 3 days of soaking in oil and a 5 foot breaker bar to get off, but, that was the easy bit, getting the hub off seemed impossible, until I borrowed the most insane puller I have ever seen from a garage nearby, the thing weighed a ton, was about 2 and a half feet long, looked like one of those sentinals from the matrix, and I even thought I was going to strip the thread on that bad boy I had to tighten it so tight! Anyways, best of luck, could be alot easier for you, use plenty of penetrating fluid, patience and shear brute force, make sure you have your wheatabix :)

I had the same problem with the passenger side - it took quite extraordinary violence to separate the driveshaft from the hub.

Thanks Tudor and Andy P,:thumbup1:

I have just re written my to do list, funnily enough, rear hub removal isn't on there anymore,:whistling: (only joking)

It looks like I will have my work cut out then. but I am determined to refurbish them.:hammer:

Maybe if I start soaking them know with WD40 or such like they might be more obliging by the time I attempt to remove them.

Again guy's Thanks!

Cheers AndyP,

Plus gas it is then.

I presume that is an aerosol type spray similar to WD40?

Ebay, here we come.

It does come in an aerosol, but more commonly found in a can with a small screw-on spout.
