Electrical idea. Need advice.

Right guys, as some of you may recall I have deleted the JDM parking mast from my bumper. I still have the button on the dash though obviously.

Soooooo, i've been thinking!!

As I mostly listen to music via my ipod/cd and hate the look of the raised aerial. Is it possible to rig this button up to raise/lower the aerial only when needed? i.e. when listening to the radio.

As you know i'm a dumbass so it's probably a stupid idea and impossible, but thought i'd ask you clever lot on here. If it is possible surely it is a genius idea :innocent::yinyang:

Any help/advice greatly appreciated

Yes it is possible, you would wire your blue arial wire that would go to the stereo and wire it to the feed at the back of the plug for the fog switch. You shouldnt need a ground as there will already be one through the loom.

So would i put the blue wire to the switch, then continue it as before? The parking must has an up/down and auto option btw.

Blue wire from aerial to the switch and the blue wire from the stereo to the switch, that way you are using the switch as an interrupt/make inline, no need for any power from the switch.

Thanks bud. I might even attempt it myself. I'm chuffed it can be done. Means there isn't a defunct button on the dash, and the aerial isn't up when not needed and ruining the cars lines. Nice one.

Not my fog light switch bud. Was going to use the switch for the parking mast, down by the clock. It was an option on Jdm only iirc. I've now deleted my parking mast so hoped to use this switch.

Mine used to, now it has a mind of it's own. Does my head in lol. It was fine until it went in for the last bit of paint, now goes up as soon as the stereo goes on.

A bad earth would cause this, remember that the stereo gets a ground from the aerial as well as a ground fitted to the body, if the body ground is poor it will rely mostly on the aerial ground which is why you will sometimes get it going up and down when you least want it too.

I threw mine in the bin & welded the hole up LOL!

There is still an antenna in the rear screen that will pick up strong FM signals - not as good as the main antenna but I never listen to the radio anyway :)

I only listen to mine once in a blue moon but would rather have the option. I seem to recall the guy who rewired my stereo for me saying there was two aerials. It was a right state all cut and taped wires. He sorted it all so it now works on the standard iso(?) connector so can be upgraded/changed easily.

I like the idea of having a specific button to power it up and down. Even has the right icon and will be pretty unique.

My aerial doesnt go up so I turned the aerial plug behind the dash round so the aerial in the rear screen is picking up the reception and its perfect :)

Might be a daft question, but whats a parking mast?

It is a short aerial on the near side of the front bumper to assist parking, raises about 10 inches.

Ah, I see......is it so you can tell where the front of the car is in relation to whatever is in front of it then?
