thought I would give you a heads up - there has been a lot of rumours about what is going to change - here is the official 2012 testing manual (will not come into effect until 1st Jan 2012):

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MOT%20Inspection%20Manual.pdf

Changes include:

HID kits will now be a failure :cursing:as they need to have headlamp washers and a self levelling feature

removal of cats where one was fitted as standard

ball joint rubber boots are now a testable item & will fail if split

PAS fluid level testable

ESP warning lights on

SRS warning lights on

TPMS warning lights on

Engine mounts (FWD vehicles only?)

drivers seat adjustment works

Battery now testable & any visible wiring

tow bar electrics testable

No mention of testing for chip tuning - something that was discussed.

well i hope we dont need to match a german MOT as we best sell the zeds now!

In this country MOT's are not that bad. And as my brother keeps telling me his favorite phrase. MOT IS AT TIME OF TEST so if you go down the road and the car blows up then there is no come back on the garage.

that said some of the worst MOT's i get done are by the minstry them self!!! there a load of useless ***** they failed the bus on lose U bolts i drove round the corner cheacked them (not lose) and came back an hour later and they passed it even though i never done a thing to the bus!!! and they still write MOT's on the old paper style certificates. ministry are ****s.

Ignore my reply, i reread it all and it isnt the same link

At present these are still proposed changes therefore they are subject to

i was originaly quizing him about the HID's but there doesnt seem to be anything about them other than checking if the headlamp washers and self leveling work which as far as i know just requires fitment to cars registered after 2006/7.

Ok - the new testers manual has been confirmed it will come into effect on 1st Jan 2012

However (and oddly as have never seen this before!!) - many of the new items are subject to a "bedding in period" and will be only an advisorary NOT a failure - they have not said how long this bedding in period will be either!

these items include:

HID headlamp levelling & cleaning devices

main beam tell tale

battery

electrical wiring

trailer electrics

warning lights for systems such as SRS, traction, tyre pressure monitoring etc

engine mounts

speedo

Now that the new rules are in force, do we know for sure how screwed we are in terms of HIDs, Decats, etc? Has anyone actually failed on these yet?
