Ok, before everyone on here rolls their eyes and gives a big sigh please bear with me.......

Now the house move is in full swing I can FINALLY begin the process leading to me buying a 2+2 Z (thank GOD). I just have a couple of questions:

Year: What year tends to be the "best", meaning spec' included, known faults etc? I really want to get one with the digital air-con control, and cruise control buttons on the wheel, as i just think they look better (IMO!!!). Will probably be an auto, as I won't be ragging it (and I fancy a change, maybe not literally - bad joke. shoot me now.) - which leads me nicely on to my next question....

MPG: (here we go again) - Now don't face-plam yourselves just yet! I don't expect miracles, just a realistic idea of what I can expect from a TT and an N/A on a A-road/motorway run, and round town. My head tells me N/A due to the apparent lack of issues and shagged ones on the market, but my heart tells me TURRRRRBO!

Insurance: I've done a bit of research on this already, and the Z (a 2+2 N/A one!) will only cost me £20 a year than my MR2 non turbo. I used Keith Michaels insurance, as they were recommended by a member on IMOC. If anyone has any other companies they think will do a better deal (on a non-mileage restricted policy!). I'm 24 with a clean license and 6 years NCB.

As anyone would do I have been trawling the interwebs, but there are so many conflicting answers from the US owners/Euro owners/Aussies that i thought I'd just bore you lot to death with my questions...... sorry :(

Any answers, or handy nuggets of advice will be rewarded by your own sense of self - satisfaction, and an imaginary muffin. :w00t:

Thanks guys!

Go for an S2 model, better climate unit, much better interior material. Otherwise they are basically the same over the years.

The TT is a gas guzzler, you will average below 20mpg and feel like it is raping your wallet all the time. I gather the NA model is not much better really.

The link above has a lot of good info.

in 1995 (when they stoped making uk model) the spec went down. one of the most noticable being the automatic air con became a manual one

from about 92/93 the series 2 had a better auto air con and a few other features

i believe all UK spec cars came with cruise control

regardless of year, go for one that has been well looked after and maintained.

The difference between an n/a and a twin turbo is noticeable.

Once you start looking at some, you will see some total dogs, but done up to look good, then some really good ones.

Dont buy the first you see, unless it really stands out from the rest.

Anyone who is enthusiastic about these cars will be able to tell you what has, or has not been done.

If you need help with looking at one, post it up, most guys if local will help out and look it over for you.

If your unsure of what your faced with. again post it up. no matter how silly you think its, its probably been asked before.

we are here to help.

Best Go for a clean JDM and get it undersealed.... That'll prevent rust issues in the short term.... mpg a lot different if going round town than if driving on the MWay..... Long drive on MWay in a TT or NA can return up to 30mpg.... round town if it's busy stop start, stop start etc you'll be lucky to get about 15mpg

Imaginary muffins all round! Thanks very much guys :D

Should be moving in a week or two, then my MR2 will be for sale. As long as it goes for a half decent price I reckon I'll be looking for a 1992-1993 JDM 2+2 N/A after your (very helpful) advice.

I'm sure there are many more silly questions I haven't thought of just yet - so stay tuned!

Firstly good luck with your search. On the subject of fuel consumption, I run a 93 jap spec TT with a couple of light mods (HKS air intakes - JapSpeed exhaust). I use the car daily and cover around 15,000 miles a year. On average I get 300 miles per tank and if I have my lead boots on, it drops to around 200 miles per tank...still pretty respectable for the amazing performance.

I am no mechanic, but with some great advice from this site coupled with the amazing work that ZedWorld do, I am loving every moment of ownership (yes the ups and the downs), so rest assured the knowledge is here on this site to help you, go for it...just prepare yourself...you will get hooked!
