There`s a car on my street left by police with a broken side window and a note on it that says .... we found this car like that and don`t know where the owners are ... and it`s there like for 6 weeks now and it`s not recorded as stolen... so the question is :) is it worth to apply for a log book ? :)

Featured Replies

why not .. the worst that can happen is the owner says no ...

other than that if DVLA says yes then its yours u may have to contact the Police

befor hand ...

The other thing i need VIN number to apply for a log book... and it`s under the hood ... it would be illegal to open it :)

when u do a search in google it says located on left upper dash panel, visible through windshield :) i`ll just go and check it .... it`s a lexus 300rx :)

Having the Log book doesn't make you the owner.

If you dont contact previous keeper or establish the owner, they could reappear at any time to claim it back.

Which could be AFTER you have spent money fixing it up, which they do not have to pay back to you, as they never asked you to fix up their car...

So what makes u the owner ? If i bought a car and got a log book and then the previous owned have changed his mind does it means he can take a car back ?

The previous owner would also need to sign the slip on the logbook, the best thing to do is to try and contact the owner, get the reg and get a HPI check or PNC, you might have to pay a few quid, but better than just taking it and later down the rod regretting it as Craig suggested.

Yep, unfortunatly its plastered all over the new Log book these days "This document is not proof of ownership"
