Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've been on the forum - have been doing some really shitty shifts at the airport lately.

Although currently a distant memory, last week was fantastic for some topless fun. But, having been a Zed owner for exactly a year now, I nearly shit myself every time I hear a new noise - as you do ...

So, I'm driving along a road with a wall on the drivers side, tops off, windows down and I can hear this constant high pitched screetching noise coming back at me. There were no other cars around so I defo know it is my Zed. Checked the brake pads but they're fine, checked the fans for any leaves/debris stuck in them but they're both clear. The noise occurs whether I'm boosting or cruising along at - boost, it increases in loudness as I go faster and then dies when I'm approaching a full stop. I'm thinking wheel bearings, turbo bearings (but surely that would mean much louder as I boost hard), or alternator. Other than this the car is running fine.

Can anyone throw any wisdom this way concerning the possible origins of this noise. I've stuck my head as far down the engine bay as I can (obviously when stationary) and I can hear a hissing noise coming from behind the driver's side headlight - have checked for disconnected hoses but can't find any. Anyway, this is defo not the same noise as while driving - so should (in theory) be unrelated.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheers all!

...real easy place to start - squirt all the belts with WD 40 and if your lucks in the noise will go.

good luck

...sorry for being so un-technical...

Yeah

Sounds like belts - Just Check Deflection on them - Check the Service Manual for acceptable figures - Just put your finger in the middle of each belt and push down at it for a non scientific approach.

God is coming ...and he dont have stock turbos . . .

What brake pads to you have ? Some have a wear indicator which is a soft metal tag which creates a screech noise. I had this on mine and took ages for me to work out what it was - doesn't sound like brakes. When you say your pads are OK, have you checked both pads on both sides ?

Of course if you're certain your pads don't have the wear indicators then this is no help ...

Hi guys,

Thanks for your feedback.

Dave - I do have the wear indicators on my front pads but I've only recently replaced all the pads so they are not the problem.

Jack - thanks for the WD40 tip, if all else fails I'll do that (somehow I don't fancy the idea of putting oil on the belts).

Nico - since you seem to be one of the few real techies on this forum (please everyone else do not take offense at this comment) could a cracked pulley cause any kind of noise? I'm only asking because it has been suggested by a few people that the noise I hear which I think is detonation could actually be a cracked pulley. But that would probably not explain why the detting noise only appears after having driven a while. Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks again fellas!
