have been reading threads on light upgrades

i have hid fitted as dip beam but am told they are not recomended for masin beam but to use osram nightbreakers instead can someone enlighten me on this also what type of bulb to buy for eg h1 h4 h7 etc

Mmmm, I'm not 100% on this but as far as I know the hid's don't like getting flashed... so a bad idea if you do that... also the beam pattern isn't right as the mains don't have a projector lens..

again... one way or another on the MOT depending on who is doing it, also cops might not like it...

I don't have any recommendation for bulbs...

H1 bulbs are the size for the main beams - but remember to keep the little "holder" thingy when you remove the old ones!!

For the reasons Medallion Man stated above, don't bother converting your mains to HID. Plus with HIDs in your dipped beam you may rarely need mains anyway....!

As for brands, forget about the styling options, blue bulbs and so called HID tints. If you want proper light on the road that you can actually use to see where you're going, then go for the proven top halogen upgrades.

The two best are Osram Nightbreaker and Phillips Extreme Vision.... I buy from these people and can recommend their services....

thanks for posting that Rich and for the brand names :thumbup1:

I've put 100w bulbs in my main after getting Zedworld to check the wiring etc to carry the extra load

Mind you, even at that they struggle to outshine the HIDs on dipped lights

I've also put HIDs in the fogs and they are awesome. Unlike some of the advice on here, they do work because they are low enough to illuminate the surface of the road and that is the most benefit

When both sets of HIDs are on as long as you are driving according to the conditions you can see all the way

Honest answer mate - Auto Express tested both bulbs and there is very little between then in terms of performance. So, as you have HIDs in the dipped, save a bit of cash and go for the Osrams.

I did and they perform perfectly. Plus the Osrams now come in "longer life" format so they should last a bit longer - which was, supposedly, an issue with upgraded halogen bulbs!
