It's a Worcester Bosch is it then and I presume a combi?

My in laws have one and have replaced the diverter valve/diaphragm many times but from time to time it doesn't work when you turn the tap and request hot water.

Left though overnight it works again and does so for 6 months or so, I was going to replace the gas valve next time it breaks as it could well be that not opening as it does click as if trying to ignite so has got a long way in it's start procedure.

Your pressure switch could be faulty, you need to try and explain a little more on what it is and is not doing.

Get the boiler model and if possible the gs ( gas number ) from the boiler id plate, there is many (repairable ) things that it could be, changing the boiler is the last option unless its more than 20 years old.

Not a good idea with out a Gas safety card, you could face upto a £20k fine for just opening the gas valve flange without the relevant qualification, annoying I know if you capable of doing the work, just be aware.

You were correct also that a pressure switch or diverter could be playing up, mainly on combi`s they use magnetic reed flow switches, these become coated in scale which ways them down and hence they fail to trigger when the pump/ flow starts, soon as matey gives us more info it will be easier to diagnose

I meant I was just going to hand tools and coffee to my inlaws's son sign0141.gif

Your just reading what I put, wrong Jeff!!!

I am aware you need to be 'Gas Safe' to touch it

If its a worcester 924 it will probably be either the diverter valve diaphram or the micro switch it operates, you can push the pin to free it. i havent done combi boilers for many years now, things have changed including the law. You can see the pin in the picture with the white cap it sits under a black cover with the microswitch. You can see the diaphram in pic 2. Pic 3 shows the black cover over the micro switch, you can just see the pin and the switch in the gap.

See I cant tell you to push the pin or the switch to see if the pin is stuck, or turn the hot water tap on whilst wathcing to see if the pin moves and operates the switch, as It would be not correct to do so!!!

Yes in the main due to the " blame and claim " society we find oursleves parts of, the regulations covering fitters and engineers is centered on ensuring the fitter or engineer is coverered if something goes wrong, it not about training them to do the actual job.

When my boiler was playing up I bought her some shoes and took her out for meal....

If its not getting heat through to the rads then a powerflush is a very good idea anyway, prices depend on the size of the house and how many radiators there are. British gas work on a price of £100 per radiator which is ridiculous - to give you an idea we do a 3 bedroom house for £400 including a magnetic filter to prevent future powerflushes needing to be carried out. So shop around, sure you'll find it cheaper if you want to go that route.
