My Mrs is getting rid of her Cayenne as she is having to put between £150-200pw in it in petrol.

She is thinking about getting a diesel A3 quattro.. cut a long story short they are rare as hens teath a year or two old and there is a 6 month waiting list on new ones.

She is after something good to use in the snow to get to her Horses and will get some snow socks anyhows. But will the quattro be worth getting over a normal 2wd one as it does not have a diff lock anyhows?.

My 911 is 4wd without diff lock and it sucks in the snow. There are loads of nice diesel A3s about nearly new with all the bits on except quattro. So is it worth holding on for one to come up or just go for a 2wd one as it will make feck all difference.

I would like her in a new car ASAP as she has already dented my 911 and im worried about how much more damage she will do.

So you think hold on and try and find a quattro rather than go for a 2wd one?

If you are wanting to replace the Cayenne for something equally (or reasonably equally) as good in bad weather, then yes mate - I would.

Living in the Chilterns myself, we do get snow and ice each winter, so something that can handle the snow (and make it up/down the many hills) is really a must if you still need to get out and about.

Sure it may be for just 3-4 weeks a year; but something that drives like a car the rest of the time yet won't get stranded in the occasional bad weather certainly makes sense to me.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

the quattro is great in the snow but the a3 platform is not the same as the a4 etc, its the same as the r32 etc. basically a fwd but with a computer controlled clutch to the rear wheels

Last winter i was driving a bora 2.8 4 motion (same platform) and whilst it was better than a fwd i would not say it was miles better. as stella said with the right tyres it might be a different story

My mate who is a car dealer sold the Cayenne already, my Nissan lives in his garage and he keeps trying to get me to let him sell that as well lol. He has an old Ferrari up there 348 that he was kinda asking if I would do a swop on. Thing is my Nissan stands me in far toooo much money.

Yup - the 4motion system is far inferior to the true quattro system & as above the A3 is Golf running gear.

Winter tyres are a must even with a 4x4 car. I had a ML that I ran for a while & it had the wider wheels & road tyres. was shit in the snow LOL!!
