boost jets

Well I'm waiting for my boost controller, I want to fit these boost jet thingys, I believe they are welding tips, what size do I get, and more importantly, where do I buy them from(what kind of shop, B&Q??

Featured Replies

You can also use spray nozzles of (motorcycle/moped) carburettors..

They're easier to get and in practically every size.

(also much easier to remove afterwards for when you don't want/need them anymore)

0.42 gives around 1.1 bar

0.48 gives around 0.8 bar

Marc, you are taking the boost jets out when your controller arrives aren't you?

yep I will be taking them out when I install the controller, just got to find a motorbike shop!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread but how much boost can be run before any detting occurs, with just a S/S exhaust and aftermarket air filter? i.e. what size boost jets?

What are the pros and cons of doing this?

I'm not sure but I'm assuming that mine still has its Cats if that makes any difference.

Marc,

Didn't you have the SE boost upgrade ? If so, that is done with boost jets.

Dave

are these boost jets to be used with an ecu chip and where exactly are they, are they a straight swop or do they need drilling and tapping? cheers.

You can cause a lot of damage with boost jets so be careful !

The jets go into airlines and restrict the flow of air to the wastegate actuators. This means that the wastegate actuators open later. The wastegates are what limit the amount of boost the turbos can produce so the later they open, the more boost you have.

From what I've seen and heard, the safest way to go for boost jets is by getting the JWT ECU which comes with them.

Some people (SE included) will fit boost jets without an ECU upgrade - normally they advance the ignition timing a bit to avoid detonation. I had this and ran it for a year or so with absolutely no problems. However, I would never do this work myself - you need to really know your stuff and have the confidence to put someone else's engine's health on the line ! If you want to do this and you're not an expert then go to one !
