No matter if I put the temp at the lowest, there's still heat from the vents, I'm guessing the valve is operated by a motor, any ideas on what to try/where to look?

aint there a motor as on most cars that open/closes behind the dash letting the water from the engine through for the heaters? "apologies im not technical, sure some will come along"

first check the fuse (sorry had to put that lol) even if you think there isnt one, and even if there isnt one check it anyway.....

 

But, first is the thermostat in the front of the engine might not be closing properly, but there is also a valve in side the heater matrix behind the dash, neither in too good a place to be honest. but as you will most likely need to empty the radiator to fix either one, you may as well do the water thermos first on the lower water pipe leading into the engine. if thats open when you take it out, problem solved, if its closed could well be the valve in the heater matrix.

 

but check other areas first though before you start changing things that might not even need changing

Well the valve on the heater matrix will open or close once the sensor has sensed the change in temp, set at the air con pod. Check first the heat ducting above the pedals. There are a couple of sensors, one pushed into the main duct and a pipe which senses the air and temp. If the pipe is not connected ( above the smaller ducting, up into the dash) then the temp will not change, no matter how you have it set.

 

Then of course you might have a sticking matrix valve, to get to the valve, you will need to remove the air con pod ecu, little black box in the footwell, left of where the clutch is/would be on an auto. there are several motors which operate to open and close flaps, do you here anything when changing the temp?

Is it auto or manual air conditioner system?

Im sure Jeff will have come across the problem many a time and rather us guessing what it might be, im sure he will see this post and make a diagnosis.

With auto you can do a self diagnostic procedure and see if any motor stuck or sensor shows incorrect temperature.Easy to do, but not easy to write down. PM me with your email address if you want I can send it to you in PDF.

I can't see how the engine thermostat will affect the heating inside the car - if the matrix valve is off, then it should be cool inside the car surely?

 

Is the link above the same on the Uk version Zed? My previous Zed was an import and these controls look to be slightly different, although it could just be my imagination!

had this on my last zed there is a duct for the heater that runs under the driver side dash to feed the drivers door vent, there is a sensor in that duct that if disconnected or failed will not let the heating switch to cold, baffled me for months on my old zed as duct had been removed from the car
