Trading Standards called me today. The garage have responded to their letter, saying that they are willing to take the Saab back, in part ex for another car in their lot.

Hmm.

Trading Standard lady says that they are quite within their legal rights to offer me a replacement car of equivalent value or to give me the value that I paid for mine, off the cost of another one of their cars. She also said that this is an excellent offer from this garage, given we were expecting no response at all, and that if I reject this offer and pursue a refund, the onus of proving the car's faults lies with me, and I would have to pay for an independent mechanic for an opinion, stop using the car until court, and the judge could throw it out given they have made this offer. So, it looks like I have to accept this offer, provided they are offering a replacement of equivalent value....

BUT - not sure how I feel about having another car from this garage. Actually that's not true, I know exactly how I feel. But I also want a fast resolution given I start Uni in 2 weeks time.

So my thoughts are that I call the toss pots and clarify that they are willing to give me the value that I paid for the car in part ex for another car. If they agree then I have to take a mechanic with me - someone willing to fully check over the car and make sure the essential parts are ok and its not going to be another dog like this one. As it stands, I have been using the Saab for essential journeys, getting it into reverse, 1st and 2nd gears is still an absolute wrestle most of the time, and of course the climate control has never worked.

Any thoughts guys? Roobarb? I'm not going to do anything til Weds as I'm at work all day tomorrow, but I'm off Weds, and I finish work Friday, so I have all next week to possibly resolve this in between Uni registration etc.

Thanks, and hope you all enjoyed JAE, I'm off to drool over your car porn now

Yes, and economical and practical and.....sorry, I fell asleep there....lol

Bit the like Corolla I had for a few weeks, and the Polo....

But its not the Saab so hopefully it could be better...

Maybe you could strip it out, couple of bucket seats, straight through exhaust, k&n, webber carbs... I reckon it could hit 60??:innocent:

I had a corolla for a few weeks several years ago. Then my sister came round in a BMW 325sport she had just bought and let me have a drive. The next week there were 2 BMWs in the drive! So much for being sensible

Yeah, with a Zimmer frame lol!

Check the crossmembers on that shape Almera they rot. Also the 1.5 isn't very economical tbh, however it is 1million times more reliable than any Saab.

Went back to the garage today, the bloke who I fell out with was there, he was perfectly pleasant. But they don't have anything within my budget that I want. Like I said previously, they have an Almera, but the price seems to be fluctuating between £1695 and £1295, and at £1295, its more than I'd wanna spend on one tbh...

So, we've left it that he'll contact me when he gets new stock in and I'll keep in touch and see what happens from there.

The Saab has gone, we now have a Vauxhall Omega. Haven't driven it too much as its currently SORN and I don't wanna tax it til Oct (how early can I do this?)

Its ok, hard to get excited about such cars. Just hoping its more reliable than Saabster. Mikey Bean advised me re the Omega as he's had several, so fingers crossed...

PS - I'm finally a student nurse, woohoo!

Congrats on the student nurse. For what it's worth now, I to have had a number of Omega's, the last one being the Elite, what a fabulous car that was, and I only sold it due to it being the saloon version and I really wanted the estate. Hope it's a good one for you Jane. :thumbup1:

Happy your sorted Jane, good choice on the mig, I've had loads of them and never had any real problems, straight forward enough and parts are easy to get and not expensive. Try this site if you need anything http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php, been a member for ages.

Woah, Jane. Can't believe this is still going on!!

If i were you, i'd take anything they've got of the highest value and then sell it on quickly. At least you have rid of the SAAB and have the possibility of getting your money back from the sale of the new car. At least this way the hassle with the garage is over, you can wash your hands of them and the SAAB and you have a (reliable?) car to drive around in until you sell it. I think further action will take a LONG time for any sort of outcome and its probably hassle you can do without.

Its sorted now thanks Pete, we didn't trade with the original garage as their stock was limited and expensive and wanted us to give them more money, and quite frankly I'd rather set fire to tenners than give them any of our cash!

Def not taking the legal action now, got enough on our plates being students and parents etc!

Soooooo, why is you sellin up?!

nice one, hope this car treat's you well, as for taxing, if it's currently sorn you can usually tax a few day's early but cant drive untill the first

Ha ha probably, but my 5 yr old is in bed, Marc's on nights (I can't sleep when he's not here) and my brain is already fried from information overload! I think one Jaegerbomb and I'd sleep for a week! (I don't generally drink alcohol, so I'm a cheap date lol)
