Not seen any broadband threads on here and thought it was a good idea to see whos the best broadband supplier in the UK, I`ve been with BT for years and just realised I`m paying far too much for a crap slow broadband service.

Obvioulsy depends on area but at the moment I`m getting 1.4mbs and its costing me £40 per month!!!!

My new option is FTTC broadband, which is basically a fibre optic cable that has been installed to your local bt cabinet and then runs the old copper cable to the house, this will get me 28mbs for about the same money

Fibre optic to my house is not available yet so I will have to live with slowish connection

so.... what have you got ,how fast and how mucho, customer service and reliablilty?

I cant fault BT for customer service, reliability, but god its bloody slow :(

let us know, cheerZ

I think bt customer service is horrendous that's why I cancelled their broadband and went with O2. With BT call after normal working with a problem and it is just a lenthy phone call explaining to someone that struggles to understand British terminology does my head in. Full of apologies and broken promises in my experience despise them

BT Infinity is cheaper than £40 a month and thats fibre optic at the exchange. I'm currently with BeThere and they are fantastic

I have virgin media was on v+ box evenings and weekend calls and 10 meg bb for £45 a month, now upgraded to tevo plus additional hd box,30 meg bb and evenings and weekends for £40 for the first 6 months then 60 thereafter

Yes, sorry, that £40 is all in for unlimited... £25 per month and £13 for line rental, works out with vat about £39ish

If your only gettin 1.4mb on standard BT for £25 a month then I would just go with BT Infinity for £25.60 a month.

I`m tempted, but with the line rental added to that aswell is that not too much? bloody £40 per month, I pay per quarter and I`m getting a massive bill for something that should be a lot cheaper in this day and age, I was interested what everone else pay`s, if its the going rate then fair enough :thumbup1:

We're with talktalk, no idea how fast it is, and customer service is usually rubbish, but at less than £10 per month for free evening and weekend calls to landlines and line rental with free broadband, i aint complaining lol

My 50Mb/s connection costs £38 a month, but since i have 2 cable boxes and the L package it comes in at £58 a month. Once they have upgraded the exchange they are putting in 100Mb/s down here :)

Only ever had 2 days down time and thats in 2 years! Can't really complain.

Give Virgin Media a try Daz if you have cable in your area, it's very fast and reliable and if you decide to go with them, if I recommend you, we will both get something out of it.

I thought I remembered you saying that when I was at yours with Yvonne, good luck with your search though bud.

You said you are paying £40 a month at the moment and Infinity is going to be the best speed your likely to get with ADSL without having proper fibre optic. If your not bothered about speed i'd be inclined to go with someone cheap like Sky

We are with sky as part of a package. We have unlimited downloads so it's good if you need that sort of thing

Sky for a tenner pm, not too bad, but does depend on how far from the exchange you are, as its on copper cable !

I'm about 1/2-3/4 mile away from the exchange.

i switched to bt a few months ago, was with virgin, upgraded to 50 meg with the "super hub" after a few weeks of it cutting out all the time and countless phone calls i finally got thru to someone who told me the truth. he said his did it all the time too and there were loads of problems the same as mine, so i had to downgrade all the way to 10 meg just to get my old modem back, binned the lot in the end and swapped to bt 40 meg which is faultless so far. as for tv, i cancelled sky the other day cos i very rarely watch it

Im literally 50 yards from the exchange, and get less than half what you get off-peak (6-7mb/s) and about 1/4 of that again during peak times (2mb/s) through Sky.

I get this question all the time in the IT game, the honest answer first is to find out what is available to you. many companies like Sky rely on your exchange having their LLU enabled on your exchange, if it doesnt they loan lines from BT and the lines are even worse than that of BT.

Your first port of call is http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker . Post the results up on here and then we can provide you decent options out of what is actually available to you.

50 yards from the exchange on BT infinity and the shit black box always looses connection to my kodak printer and galaxy s2 phone. forever resetting it.
