I understood that a re-gas on a Z32 will need some extra work to run on the newer type gas, but I also read the new gas should be in vehicles post 1994 .... so would my JDM 95 model just need a straight recharge or a complete overhaul ?

Is it easy to access ? (ok maybe thats optimistic :p)

I'm not sure about the gas issues, but suprisingly, it is pretty easy to access, the bleeder/filler thingies, are on the passenger side, inbetween the engine and inner wing, they look like tyre valves, may still have the plastic tyre valve caps on too, quite easy to find, for a change! :)

you can follow the 2 pipes coming out of the bulkhead, under the battery(ish) if you can't find them....

Thanks Tudor, yep light green plastic caps still in place, uppermost one marked H lower one marked L, so the refil one (L) is the one furthest away  .... just need to determine what refrigerant I have now !

if the connectors are a screw thread on the outside then it is R12 (old) - if they are quick coupling type connectors then R134a (new) :cool3:

Thanks Paul C, I'll pull the caps and look soon ... if its R12 is it an expensive job to get converted ?

**EDIT**

A bit of googling leads me to believe an R12 system can be refilled directly with R49L instead, I presume most specialist auto air con places can do this ?

we always used to convert, never used a drop in replacement myself but worth asking. R134a conversions are not too bad anyway & would then be cheaper & easier to regas in the future. Details here: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=33691

Just take it to a garage and they will hook it up to a R2D2 type thing, it will pull out all the old gas and put in to the top some fresh.

I got mine done last summer, simples and it was £35.00.

FYI, mine is a late '94, so same as yours :cool3:

I did a thread on it somewhere with the droid in action!!!

EDIT : Just search R2D2 and it will come up with pics

as above

Old style R12 system just need the connector convertors fitted, and after leak testing, vacuum drying the full system and fill with drop in gas, average cost £50 to £80 depending where you take it.

Here is mine been done 5+ years ago, still ice cold now.

JDM 95 should already have R134a gas. There is a sticker in the engine bay somewhere.

There's a FAQ http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=140062 which has the Nissan bulletins explaining the changeover from R12 to R134a. Bulletin issued Jan 1992 but they obviously didn't change UK Zeds - just US and JDM.

If there was a sticker, its long since departed I think, that or I am not looking in the right place ;)

I will get it looked at next year, can't see me needing it anymore this year :p

If you look at the bulletin, it's got drawings and diags of the different connectors and parts so should be a 5 mins job to spot. But a 95 JDM should be R134a anyway.
