just noticed a strong smell of fuel when the car is on choke or cold start can anyone advise me please smell goes away on normal running

This may sound like a stupid question, but is this smell inside our outside of the car? If it only occurs on choke, it implies it's more of a problem with the fuel system in the engine than the fuel filler neck as being on choke or not would have no affect on the fuel filler neck.

Could be old hard rubber fuel houses under the bonnet. I had the same problem and it was only when the car was cold. I replaced the hoses and its been fine since. Presumably they're harder when they're cold.

Most likely the engine bay fuel lines. Follow them from the filter to the fuel rail, checking for cracks and tightening each of the clamps.

There is a another one hidden under the throttle linkage at the front of the plenum (in the centre) with 2 more clamps on.

would like to replace my fuel lines for braided ones which is the best way to go go think changing would eliviate the smell

lol... only if you replace the one that is leaking....

the ones on the fuel rail are hard to do, particularly the one at the front under the accelerator linkage .... I did mine with new fuel hose, to get braided down there would be a nightmare without doing a plenum pull.
