What does your chassis number start with?

Hallo all,

this is a really completeist, pedantic post and a particularly nit-picky question.

We have discovered that the DVLA figures about how many 300ZXs are registered in the UK are wrong. Somewhere between the street and your V5, they make big mistakes about what your car is - I suspect many of you have been registered as a Z31.

Not having the correct figures is a) irritating and b) doesn't help negotiations with suppliers like insurance people.

Me, I am not going to get involved with suppliers - that's for others - but I would like to know how many of us there are.

I reckon this forum has a significant fraction of all 300ZXs in the UK which might help in negotiation with people (eg Nissan Motor and their damn fool look-up charge). But we need to know a little more reliably than the current wrong figs so far.

If you want to help with this, please check out the below list of chassis numbers. Is yours correctly listed? If not please let me know.

More info and a better laid out table is at

http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~webster/chassisnos.html

The list is:

CZ24 300ZXTT 1990-1996 USA LHD TT 2 seater coupe

The idea is to gather the supporting info and talk to the DVLA in May when 2001 info should be available.

I will also be e-mailing Will at Datsun Owners Club and the zclub and people like Andy Pingram who I know know a lot about this sort of thing. Just not tonight!

Cheers pedantically

Sorry to pollute this thread, but do you know if it's possible to get confirmation from Nissan as to when a car was actually manufactured ? My import was given a J plate, but according to the check done at U-SaveAuto it was made in Nov. '92, making it a K. I spoke to the DVLC and they confirmed that it can be challenged, given confirmation from the manufacturer.

Mine is RGZ32 to 1991 uk 2+2 tt

cheers

AndyP - does the Australian link help at all or.... (actually , I just re-read your post. The Oz table just gives you calendar year and you need Aug and earlier vs Sept and later? Is that right?)

The last resort - call +81 33 543 5523 this is Nissan Japan Customer service. I rang them a month ago about tyres and found them more helpful and authoritative than Nissan Motor GB. You have to speak slowly and be v polite tho!

Might be worth a try....

Gio looking at your graph am I right in saying that in 1998 no Z32's were registered(or am I reading it wrong an being a dumbass)?

Trey - no you're right, it is the DVLA and their offices which are being less than correct.

They think there were no Z32s registered in 1998. I don't believe this.

For example, mine was registered in 1999.

Me and my pedantic completist colleagues reckon the DVLA figures are "all-to-cock" (technical yorkshireman phrase). This is what prompted the question about chassis nos.

Mine would have been registered in 1998, but as a '92 car. Does that confuse the issue ?

I can't resist. Here's my contribution to

the chassis numbers. 1998 TT 2 seater.

Question: Was it only the US market TT's that lost the Variable cam timing in 96 when moving to OBD II?

AndyP - the nice lady at the SMMT said the figures are date first registered OR date of manufacturer if given and if earlier than date of first registration.

This is one of the areas it would be interesting to clear up - the raw data gives both manuf and reg date.

GCZ32 - 1990 TT Jap import.

GCZ 1992 Z32 TT import

CZ32-54**** '94 2+0 TT.

The V5 notes the model as a 2 axle rigid body coupe. Didn't like the sound of Fairlady Z or 300ZX?

RGZ32 1993 TT AUTO UK

The USA got a non-VVT engine in 1996, their

last year of official imports. The Japanese

market TT was always VVT until the end of

the line in 1999/2000. I don't know if the

TT was exported officially outside Japan

after 1996/1997. Anyone?

Bill

Cheers for that Bill.

Yeah I dont think the Z32 was exported to any other markets after 97.

UK/Europe - 1995

US - 1996

Australia - ????(dont know off the top of my head)

(sorry Gio for sidetracking your thread mate!)

Hi,

Tonight's summary is in detail on http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~webster/chassisnos.html (at the end of the page).

In brief, the import GCZ TT 2+2 is the most popular model (43%) ('ray!).

A massive 64% are imports and only 36% are UK models. So why is Nissan Motor GB being a dickhead over supporting these care?

(more on this subject later...)

Thanks to all for the info so far. I will keep you posted on what the SMMT say when they say it later next month. (new posts still welcome if you want to.)

Thanks Gio

Looked up my docs- mines reg as '2-axle-rigid body sports' (not very romantic!) and GC232519581 instead of GCZ32- sending back with stiff letter!

Regards
