Hi All

my water pump decided to eat itself at the weekend so it needs replacing. ive dropped it at a garage to do that I know as I spent ALL weekend on it putting divorced downpipes on n full japspeed stuff back.

he has said itll be - 120 labour

68 for pump and 15-20 for belt.

All sounds about right to me I just wanted to check.

I would usually do this but I REALLY cant be bothered especially with the state my hands are in from doing the driver side top bolts on the turbo elbows. gotta be a bloody contortionist to do em!!

Yeh, all sounds about right. Part prices are ok (make sure its a Nissan OEM pump though...they are about £70).

Its about 2-3hrs labour for a garage.

greaat cheers. Literally got about half a mile down the road absolutely loving the new noise, heard a bang and then a slapping. turned engine straight off.

Was actually thankfull it wasnt oil pouring out as that would have been trouble!

Turns out the slapping noise was when the pump went the pulley went all cockeyed moving the belo and the belt had been strimmed by the fan which was then catching on a lower pulley.

Just took the belt off and tied up the fan to stop it trying to spin and left it a few hours before driving another half mile. how can I tell if they have used an OEM pump or Patent one? apart from the impellor size is there anything external I can look at?

have you just had the work done? sounds like they didn't bolt the fan clutch on to the pulley properly, thats the only way the pulley is going to go cockeyed

15-20 for belt.

Not a Nissan belt at that price, I would make sure they have not quoted you for an ancillary belt! however if that can supply a belt for £15 - £20 ask what make and warrranty it has.

Pulley is attached to the water pump, if the bearings go ( bang noise mentioned) the pulley and fan blade will flop over and strike the lower main pulley.

Incorrect. If the bearings go in the pump the shaft (to which the fan is attached) can go p1ssed! Or if you're particularly unlucky the shaft could snap!

Very true and seen it more than once, can cause untold damage at speed.

I believe JoelZX is talking about having ancillary belt(s) replaced with waterpump, not the cambelt.
