Air filters

Can anyone tell me what performance air filters are best suited to the zed?. I have the following in mind at the moment:-

1)Blitz

2)HK

3)Apexi

4)K&N

Money is not the issue, so I need to know from experience etc. what gives best performance, reliability, ease of fitting etc. before I invest in one.

Cheers

Thanks for that, looks like the Apexi one wins through. Zero maintainence and greatest power increase!. Now need to find out where to get them from, locally if possible?.

Tony,

I have also seen another comparison on a Japanese site which gave very similar results to the GTR site recommended by Eric. Apexi came out top there too (however see below).

I believe Smithy (Cybercraft) has access to Apexi products, for an alternative price. Also Smithy makes Air Filters (similar to the Blitz construction) for the 300ZX, and so it is well worth talking to him (see contacts & links).

Regarding Apexi, I think I remember seeing a post somewhere (I wish I could remember where) that it did not perform in a 300ZX as well as hoped - something to do with rain getting in through the 300ZX's intake and clogging. It might be worth asking around. I just recall somebody having ZX problems in our climate and changing to another filter.

Hope this helps. Sorry, it is all from memory.

Cheers, Geoff

I've got the JWT-intake (=K&N)on both my Zeds...good quality and had no problems with it sofar.

Just make sure the intake can't suck in any water (by using the stock splashguard or make one yourself)

If you're not going for really silly bhp (i.e. 500 +) then IMHO there is nothing in it. I had the SE twin filter setup and then the JWT / K&N setup. Two completely different approaches but I couldn't tell the difference.

For reference, I was running 432bhp @ flywheel.

Thanks for your input guys, I think I'll still go with the Apexi. No need to worry about getting the filter wet as I don't take it out when it rains.

Will probably get it after I come back from my summer hols.

Cheers,

Tony
