Hi All.

I'm swapping some bits from my old engine to new. I've found a few posts about installing the dipstick tube but nothing about removal?? Is it just a push fit? Any tips for getting it out without damaging it? Tips on installation would also be appreciated.

BTW the engine is out of the vehicle.

Cheers

Should be a case of just unbolting it and pulling it off matey. putting it back on is the reversal, take the dipstick out first though.

yes mate, just a tight push fit, just need to carefully prise it out, as it has a shoulder on it to stop it going in too far, you can get something under it like a wood chisel etc. and as it loosens, twist and pull, and you can just tap it back in using something on the shoulder.

i slightly widened mine before refitting, think i used a drill bit or something that was fractionally bigger and just tapped it into the end of the tube, just to make it bit of a better fit, and you can use the shoulder on it to tap it back in, just make sure you get it in the right place, you don't want to be turning it after you have fitted it as it may make it loose... HTH...

I Tap them out from underneath once the manifold is off with a parrallel punch.make sure you refit it with a bit of sealer to avoid any leaks.drive it fully home using the collar.if its not fully in the block your oil reading will be incorrect.

Thanks Jimmer. I did wonder about using sealant. I've got an ancient tube of over priced Nissan branded stuff, to be fair it is excellent though...

I can get the collar close but it seems to be about 1mm proud of fully home, there's a small gap in other words. I'll have another go at it later.

I'm having to relocate the oil sender to the oil filter tree, got some new Z1 BB turbos to fit and their custom oil feed lines don't allow for the sender.

Cheers
