after 7 hrs work plumbing this thing in, it sort of works.

everything lights up, it counts down when i switch engine off but the engine dosent continue to run. the electrics stay on i.e the clock and aircon pod show the numbers and the timer counts down then all power switches off.

obviously the whole idea is for the engine to continue to run any ideas what ive done wrong?

it should be a plug and play affair, there should be a harness with it, you unplug the connector out the back of the ignition barrel and plug the harness supplied into the ignition barrel, then plug the OEM ignition cable into the harness, all you would need to do then, is run the kill wire to the hand brake switch, so if someone jumps in your car while the engine is running, the moment the hand brake is released it kills the engine.

didnt come with a harness so i cut into ignition wires and soldered in. the handbrake thing makes sense and is definatly conected. havent done the speed sensor yet tho as it looks a bit tricky

Curley Kev, it turns out i bought a Blitz FATT turbo timer, i never used the plug and play adaptor as it was not correct for my nissan 300 wiring setup, instead i had to solder each wire into position. so the upshot is i have an adaptor harness going begging but i do not know if it will be suitable for your TT, that said it may be worth thinking about

cracked it at last had the green wire in the wrong place not going to the "on" at the ignition.

just the speed sensor to connect to the ecu now. this should be done by an expert it says......... hmm maybe tomorrow

  • Author

and tomorrow arrives.... just had a look at the ecu (not seen it before) is it just a case of finding the right wire and cutting into it to make the connection?

  • 3 weeks later...

Rather than start a new thread asking how to go about fitting a Greddy turbo timer I figured I'd just jump on the back of this one and ask for some info

basically when I bought the shortie' off Marty it had an alarm system fitted with a turbo timer already built into it.

The trouble was, the alarm was uber sensitive and kept going off with even the slightest amount of rain fall or when people walked near to it.

I got the distinct feeling that the neighbours were justifiably less than impressed and it was only going to be a matter of time before the complaints started to flood in

not to mention the fact that I was having to sleep with the key fob next to the bed, ready for when the alarm went off at 1 O'clock in the morning, and again at 2, and again at half past 2 etc. So at 5:30 the other morning when it went off for the tenth time that night I ended up going outside with a Gerber, popped the bonnet and cut the fookin' wire

this doesn't seem to have caused any dramas other than the fact that when the ignition is switched off now the engine keeps ticking over for about 5-10 seconds and then cuts out rather than the minute or so previously, also the lights on the dash remain on for about a minute and then switch off.

The central locking still works fine.

I want to fit this spare Greddy turbo timer that I picked up a while back but just wanted to clarify how to go about fitting it

It was advertised with a 300zx loom already attached so I assume that it should just be 'plug and play'

from the pic below, can anybody tell me if this is actually a 300zx loom?

if so am I right in saying that it should fit near the ignition?

  • 3 months later...

After reading much I have now fit my GReddy Auto Turbo Timer.

I have

Red to White/Red - this is 12v permanent.

Yellow to Black/White

Blue to Blue/White

Some notes on the pic below, the black shiny sheathed wires that head off the pic at the bottom, you may notice one of the 3 wires within this is cream, you cannot see it but it is in with the thick cream one furthest right into the connector block on the pic, this just heads off and goes to a blank bullet. So then I have a blue wire that travels outside of this shiny sheath, you can see just on the pic that it does come apart as there is an inline sheathed connector, then there is red and yellow and these three go into what is called the power harness (FYI on mine the yellow wire connects at the multi plug and becomes a green wire) these 3 ultimately go into the turbo timer head unit.

The pic in the previous thread, yes those pins need to go into a turbo timer harness or you can just splice straight in, of course the black wire needs a good grounding point. You have red, green and white I notice, along with the black, so based on my colours of my wires, an educated guess would be, red connects to red, green connects to yellow and the white connects to blue.

Hope you understand all that!!!

My harness was not plug and play for some reason, I had to take out all the locking spades/pins and swop them over, making the correct male/female connector on each end to fit, that's why you see a cable tie on both, don't want it coming apart :glare:

I am yet to connect the speed sensor wire into the ECU one, I believe this to be A9 on the diagram, so if someone could shed some light on that and the work involved I would be grateful, thank you.

Now finally on to what happens, I set the timer at 30 secs say, take keys out, get out, close door, I then zap it and it central locks (usually here it beeps as well and arms the alarm), finally engine stops and the separate immobiliser activates immediately as normal, the car is still locked which is fine, at this point I have to zap again and it beeps at me and the alarm arms, doors are still locked, I then go inside forget about it.

However, the alarm will not arm until the engine as stopped running, so in theory I will have to loiter, defeats the object really  is this down to a wire that needs connecting to the alarm system, perhaps the blank bullet from the turbo timer harness? Or the inline bullet on the blue wire, might have to go somewhere and then come back? ****UPDATE***********SEE MY POST 13 BELOW*********

Of course I want it to arm and lock when running/counting down, it takes 15 secs or so for the alarm to fully set anyway once it as beeped at me?

******UPDATE*****THIS AS BEEN SORTED SEE POST 14 WHICH EXPLAINS HOW*********

Any help greatly appreciated and hope my pic and description helps into the future.

EDIT: After a quick look on the internet it seems this might solve my problem and is a great addition to this post

mine does the same thing with the alarm, it centrally locks fromthe fob but no beep.

i use the timer to warm up the car sometimes but never bother with it otherwise

Right a quick update to post 10 of mine and this is worth reading as I have done a clever little mod :cool3:

I have found out or realised what the blue wire I mention in that post does, the one with the inline bullet connector

When it is connected it keeps the accessories on (acc), ie radio, EBC and whatever else when the timer is counting down, unplugged and these do not stay on when the timer is running down, just the engine then.

So this got my tiny brain thinking, 'what could I have come on and stay on with the engine when the timer is activated once the keys are removed' thinking-023.gif

So for complete pose factor, very unlike me I know :winkiss: I have linked this blue wire into my front fog switch and also my stereo ignition live, I have had to use some diodes as at one point when I manually put the lights on, the stereo would come on headachesmiley.gif

Of course now when I walk away from the car the engine is running, music is still playing, fog/side lights are on and absolutely everything else that I have linked to the light circuit, this is a lot by the way  After the set 20 secs or so, everything shuts down.

If I so wish I can turn the timer off and of course nothing stays running.

My mercs lights come on when I exit for a set period, so I have only done a similar thing, I could of had the dipped beams come on if I so wished but with HID lights fitted it is not recommended so I stuck with pick up at the front fogs.

Quite happy with my work today happy0071.gif

A further update to post 10, a common problem and something I have viewed in many threads/posts is that the alarm will not arm as the engine is running because the turbo timer as cut in and is counting down, so we need to trick the alarm into thinking the engine as been turned off and so we can just zap and this locks the doors and activates the alarm.

This is a helpful post on the Oz site

http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265802

You will notice a diode as been used in post 2 and this is what I have done and here is a pic of my turbo timer harness showing where the diode needs to go.....it is mentioned in post 4 that a diode had failed, I have liaised with Groover and he tells me a small diode should be ok as the voltage and amps are low but you can buy a larger one if you so wish.

DSC01716.jpg

Self explainatory really, cut the black sheath back a bit and sever the yellow (on mine, yours may different a colour) wire and put it inline, the stripe on the diode needs to go nearest the turbo timer connector or nearest the right on the pic, you can just see it.

When this harness is connected up, this yellow wire goes to the black with white stripe on the car ignition loom connectors.

The blue wire to the right is the one I talk about in post 13 and this connects and livens up the radio and lights. The blue wire and the white wire are left like this unused.

Hope that helps
