Hello

I am looking to buy a 300.Is there much difference between a N/A and turbo engines? I know the N/A generates less power but is it that noticeable in the real world/

cheers

I would say a definate yes but it depends on your use? A turbo is juicier then NA but for just local town driving an NA is great, if you wanna give it a good foot full then turbo is the way forward but be aware of the fact everything is more expensive, fuel use, insurance, maintenance etc etc, best thing i could recommend is test drive both types and make your own conclusion.

Good Luck with your hunt

Craig

round the track it can be a different matter though :) Im quite happy with my NA at the moment and is very nippy although i will convert to a TT at some point to chase BHP figures. TT ones do have alot more mechanical problems and hard to get a good one IMO as alot are fried

I have an NA and a Turbo is significantly quicker in almost all scenarios, and the fuel economy is about the same overall (when driven "normally").

That said, it has been just as reliable as my wife's Micra, which is apparently not the case for the majority of TTs, mainly due to age and abuse having a negative impact on the added complexity of the TT.

Yes it's noticeable in the real world but no, it doesn't really matter. I've had both and you can tell the difference. But the ability to actually use the turbo in the real world is limited by a) not wanting to drive like a moron b) not wanting any more points.

In 7 years of TT ownership (manual) I got maybe 20 mpg and in 3 years of NA (auto), I get around 24/25. Do I miss the TT? Yes. And when I stop having to commute around London, maybe I'll get another one. But for day-to-day traffic, NA is a very civilsed way to get about and even though NA, still shifts when you give it some. Just without that insane turbo rush.

thanks for the replies.I have 2 prospective purchases, the NA is the nicer car overall in terms of condition and history so I may go for that.In the past I have had a 200sx and loved the turbo. My last car was an NSX which is N/A and I found the acceleration much smoother ,but I loved both in different ways.

I had an NA earlier this year, but then bought a TT. I've had 6 TT's now and the NA was nice to drive, but performance wise its not even close IMO. As said earlier in the thread, it depends what you want from a Z, if its a kick in the back and stonking acceleration, then get a TT. If you just want to roll around and look cool buy an NA. :thumbup1:

nicer car overall in terms of condition and history

That's a very key point. Unless you are looking for a project car, it's always a good idea to buy on condition and history. Not just because of how it is now but it can be an indication of how carefully the prevous owner(s) looked after a car.

My last car was an NSX which is N/A and I found the acceleration much smoother ,but I loved both in different ways.

I love the Z, don't get me wrong, but if you've had an NSX then you are definitely going to be hugely disappointed with a Z32 NA.

Apart from all of the other differences between a Z32 and NSX (which I won't go in to here), the NSX has close to 300bhp compared to around 220-230 for the Z NA. And then there's the NSX engine...

...why are you moving from an NSX to a Z?

Welcome to the club....

....and I cannot say much more on the performance of an NA 300zx compared to a TT that no-one has not already said!!

I know what you mean about the acceleration of a non-forced inducted car being smoother (and perhaps more instantaneous) than a turbod motor. My daily drive is a 3.5 litre N/A Mercedes which has 308bhp, and will probably pip my 300zxTT in the 0-100mph dash.

But unless the power and torque of the comparable cars in question is similar (as you know, having had an NSX) then the more powerful/torquey car is always going to have the performance advantage, even in "real world" situations....

Good luck in your search,

Richard:cool3:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
