Need a bit of help here,

When the car is not running i can slide throught he gears very easily. When the car is running it is quite stiff to get the gears home. I am running a Z1 shortshifter but am wondering why it is harder to change gears when the car is running? Is there something mechanical i should be checking as well as the fitting of the short shifter?

Cheers

I am toying with the idea of going back to a stock shifter to see the difference as I never ran the car without the short shifter. I feel that my gearchanges are slower than if I was using a stock setup but need to try it to be sure.

Short shifters are box munchers, lose it.the zeds shift is short anyway. All it does is increase mechanical advantage which aids syncro failure from forced changes.

What parts do i need to change it back to standard?

Just a stock lever with its fulcrum will do it.

Cheers Jimmer, will see if I can get one to try out. Is there anything else that could be causing the stiff changes when the car is running?

I don't know whether it's related or not but since my leaking clutch hydraulic pipe was fixed I've noticed gear changes to be smoother. I've been running a short-shifter for a few years and it's only first gear that I struggle with. Someone suggested the bushing could be a little too large perhaps.

You should also check a couple of things first :

-- The nut and bolt on the shift pivot was not done up too tight that its pinching the bushing

-- The bolts used either through the pivot or to mount the short shifter are not too long that they are making contact with each other during certain shifts.

Both I have seen with short shifter installs, causing tight/stiff shifting issues.

*reduce mechanical advantage.

doh yeh my badself  fulcrum point is moved upwards.

Sometimes clutch pipe expend under pressure causing the clutch to stay a little bit engaged.Try to put your hands on the pipe, while somebody else moving pedal up and down.(if you can do it alone let us see a video :) )
