A/C problem

Hiya Guys,

My ac has stopped working, no longer cools the car.

Has been like this since I played with the timing belt in Jan and I tightnened the pulley belt up really tight to stop squeal. could this affect the A/C compressor?

It seems to be turning alright when the engines running, and the revs go up when you turn it on.

Probably just needs recharging but I will check it out this evening and make sure it is turning alright.

Any tips would be great.

Many thanks,

Kind RegardZ.

Amer.

Ususally if the revs go up when turning on the AC, the pump-clutch isn't switched on.

idle revs should be the same or maybe just a tiny bit higher then normal.

if the clutch isn't switched on, it could be an electrical problem (fuse, bad wiring) or it's in safteymode, because there's not enough R12-freon in the system

nissan say rave should go up from 750 to 850 when A/C is on. But id guess it needs regassing. If the compressor wasnt turning properly then the engine would stall when u turn it on.

Check that the electrical connector is in place - which controls the magnetic clutch. If for any reason its come off, then it'll never engage the A/C.

...Its the only wire going to the A/C compressor btw.

If it IS engaging properly then you should see the centre of the pulley turning, not just the outside. If thats turning then - ignore this post and follow the advise above smile.gif

Cheers
