Anyone know much about these. Ive only just found out that with a modded engine you need to run colder spark plugs :confused1:

Ive been running normal ones for years with no problems :wack:

but soon i will be setting the boost higher and getting it mapped.

so what shall i go for?

These http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HKS-SPARK-PLUGS-SET-6-NISSAN-300ZX-HEAT-RANGE-7-/270794217391?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0c97d7af for lightly tuned

or these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HKS-SPARK-PLUGS-SET-6-NISSAN-300ZX-HEAT-RANGE-8-/270794217627?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0c97d89b for a highly modded engine.

Mine is slightly tuned but is it a case of cooler the better????

You have got me searching threads again!!!

I know j1mmytt is running 7's without a problem and believe silverbullet as 8's in his, John Dixon doesnt seem to have a problem with them either.

All that good enough for me :cool3:

Check my rides for my mods and forthcoming mods.

I (personally) would stick with the NGK platinums, perhaps the C instead of B (or the other way round, can't remember), have heard about running issues with the iridiums, and the NGKs were actually made for the VG30, it's the reach of the plug that matters, or the amount it sits into the cylinder, however, I might be talking rubbish.... :)

Totally agree the NGK 11c is not just an all round standard plug but one that was designed specifically for the VG30 and even when running higher power will be fine.

If plugs become a problem when raising power then the mapping needs modifiying not the plugs, a zed running correctly ( ignition timing, camshaft timing, tps, throttle balance, no air leaks, and good compression equal on all cylinders, good quality super unleaded) standard or even your running up to 1 bar of boost will be no issue for the standard plug.

Iridium plugs are not well designed for the V30 engine, having known this for many years we finally after some 30 minutes of discussing this with a HKS sales rep at the Autosport show in Birmingham 3 years ago he finally agreed ( albeit very quietly ) that 6 cylinder 2.5 litre or above engines will not give a 100% with iridiums, they cause low speed flutter and tickover issue`s due to poor self cleaning which small high revving engines do not suffer from

In fact over the years we have come to now recognise the sound and feel of a zed engine at tickover when iridiums are fitted and most times can confidently guess they are fitted without even lifting the bonnet from the engine sound alone.

Of course if you have them fitted dont think you cannot use your zed until replaced its just the standard ones are better.

Motorsport applications of many things eventually filter down to road cars due to magazine adverts and hear say, most of which is started by the motorsport parts sales teams! which have a vested interest in propergating the theories that after market is better, may be in some cases but rarely do engine builds go anywhere near what they are stated, driven some 500bhp monsters builds which on the road feel slow but give high rolling road figures......but now that entering the world of make believe anyway.

might aswell keep what i have then if im not having anyproblems. was thinking about 1.1bar/ 1.2bar. on high boost. i know it will max out the tubs but it will only be for overtaking .

just need mr dixon to do my map :)

The HKS Iridium plugs are Denso Iridiums but sold at a higher cost.

PFR6B-11C are the standard NGK double platinum plugs designed specifically for the VG30DETT engine. PFR6B-11 are standard for the NA (and many other cars) and differ in not having an extra projected and shrouded tip, there are true Iridium equivalents to this plug but not to the PFR6B-11C. All the same I think most people who have noticed any problem with an Iridium plug in the VG30DETT have fitted an unsuitable part. NGK UK have never published an application guide for Iridium plugs (other than OE) so it depends who you talk to as to what part they suggest.

NGK also made PFR6B-11B, which is a further modification and makes the plug more suitable for a hotter running engine (i.e. tuned/driven hard). As far as I'm aware production of this plug stopped a good few years ago although there is still stock here and there.

Unless you really need a colder plug it's best to stick to the OE part. Iridium plugs work out a fair bit cheaper but not by the time you've added shipping if you buy them from the USA (you may also get hit for import VAT, customs and handling)

Cheers,

H
