Rear water leak ???

Hi,

I noticed some water under the car in my garage. On looking from underneath it seems to be dripping from the front of the gearbox. Working up from there it seemed to be coming from somewhere above the exhaust join arrangement, on the near side.

I tried removing the battery and looking from above, but couldn't get an angle to see anything.

There didn't seem to be that much water lost from radiator, and didn’t' seem to leak while engine running.

Anyone any ides, what might be leaking up/back there - is it where heater parts are?

(not sure I want to ask about ease of solving the problem !!)

Thanks for any help

Ash

might be the hoses from the heater, which are located behind the engine (between engine and firewall).

Unfortunately those hoses are very hard to get to..

is it just clear water??

if it is its almost certainly from the a/c evaporator drains, just condensation running out & its quite normal.

Nope, definitely water + antifreeze.

But even stranger is that it seems to be a random occurence. I've tried running with heater on and off, short and long distances and can;t find a common cause.

When it happens it seem sto drop 1/2 or pint of water and then stops. Only seems to happen once I've stopped, but this may be because thats only time it's noticeable.

Water drops down onto near side exhaust so produces lots of steam, but temp sensor never changes from normal......

The turbos are water cooled??

could it be one of the pipes to the turbo??

it looks like it is these pipes that have split on mine, drips coolant and water down the back of the engine. not good frown.gif

Aaron kindly wrote this for me on how to bypass these, I am waiting until the gearbox and starter motor is out to hopefully allow better access.
