FAR too unlikely I think!

Anyone know how likely the timing is to be out on a Z? I've had mine since September last year, Cam Belt was changed a month or so ago and we didn't have a timing gun, so we just put the CAS back as close to where the factory faded bits appeared to be, as we could. I've just checked the timing on it today, and it's perfect! 15deg exactly!

Then Roses car, not had a cam belt in over 6 years, admittedly wasn't driven that much by SandyZ, he used it for shows and Sunday drives etc. But still, for the timing to be exactly dead on again? Especially since it was converted from auto to manual last month and nothing done with the timing, isn't there supposed to be a difference between the auto and manual when converted? Does this maybe mean it WAS out before it was converted?

Mikey will be home in an hour or so, and I'm keen to see if his is perfect as well, because aside from proving that all the cars were already perfectly timed, I've kinda wasted £16 on a timing gun! lol It'll sit there forever, not getting used now most likely!

were you expecting the timing to be out or something? cant understand what the issue is here, if the timing is perfect, whats the problem?

any competent person changing a timing belt will check the timing after and adjust as necessary, but if they are that good, it should only be a check as the timing wouldn't of slipped.

tbh yes, I was expecting it to be a little out at least, I mean yeah, the timing belt change itself was fine, but when we took the CAS off in the first place, it was turned all the way to the left, this had been done by the previous owner, when we put it back on, we looked for the marks left from when it had originally been bolted in for years upon years since the factory (The faded bit) and got it as close to that as possible, just as a guestimate until we got a light. I basically expected, on a 20 year old, 70,000 - 80,000 mile engine, where the CAS had been put back almost exactly where it was bolted in the factory 20 years ago, for the timing to be a little out, you know, at least have to adjust it a LITTLE, but no, it's perfect, without the need for the light :S

Except your own car was at 12 deg? :D

Why dont you tweak it a bit? theres info on the Robo page but never looked at it!

tweak it a bit? As in advance the timing to make it perform better? lol

When I put my new engine in the timing was spot on as well. I'd had the cas out for a bit of a clean and put it back in the position it came off at, also changed the cambelt.

The timing would only be out on a conversion if you haven't connected pin 44 to the neutral switch or ground :)
