2+2 300 and young kiddies in the back

Hi Guys,

Do any of you have kids that go in the back of the 300?

Reason I am asking is the seat belts in the back are not normal like the ones in the front of the car.

The ones in the back just strap over you waist as it were is the best I can describe it.

Now the booster seats - don't go in the back very well due to the shape of the seat. So I was wondering does anyone know if I can just have the kiddies in the back with the seat belt fastened and no booster? As I thought the booster was for the type of belts in the front of cars.

Any help appreciated.

regards

Dave

I used to have the lap belts but i changed them to inertia belts, the holes and threads are already in place for the rears, so you can change them really easily. You will need to take the the rear panels out next to the seat and if you have it, pop the plastic grommet in the side window cover for the top bolt to fit, if not you can drill the hole, you will see the cut out hole on the rear of the panel.

Funnily enough i found getting a baby seat in the front seat easier with the belts on the door as you have more length on the belt than when its on the B pillar.

Yes I have thought about doing that at a later date.

But, do we know if the kiddies can go in the back without a booster seat with the lap belts?

I have had my other halfs 4 year old and 10 year old in the back with lap belts with no problem. I tried the booster seat, but wouldnt sit right in the bucket of the seat, but the booster is to enable the normal seat belt to go across the shoulder of the child, so that doesnt matter or work with the booster seat.

i put both my kids in, when i had a japspec car, i put UK seat belts in, you will need to have the seat belt, the rear seat interior trim and top window plastic trim and the bit the seat belts clips into (as they are different sizes) to fit them.

you can then put booster seats in properly, don't put the kids in the back seats using the lap belts as its illegal with out a child support seat.

you need to put a cushion into the bucket, ive got a spare rear seat and was going to see about getting some moulds made up that slot into the rear seat and flatten it off.

My children are 1 and a half and 3 years 4months old. i use the larger heavy plastic car seats that have their own harness system, im not going to risk my children's lives to a lap belt.

If yours are older than that, i say get a cushion and put the booster seat ontop, try to get one that isn't that slippy or every time you break there ass might slide forward lol

I have a spare set of the uk rear sear belts up for sale if you are going to do the conversion. Pictures etc are in the for sale section. Give me a shout if you want them!

Cheers

Sorry had a look in for sale section could not find...

How much do you want for them with delivery?

Child Car seats and booster seats are used only for the safety of the child, agree?

I have 2 boys, the eldest being 3 and the youngest is 1. I've only ever taken my eldest out in the car with his full child car seat fitted in the front. I can't take them both because of the shape of the back seats.

But why don't you put the 3yr old in the back with the lap belt and the 1yr old in the front in his seat? I hear you ask!

Because it's NOT safe!! Unless your child is of a certain age AND height/weight they are not permitted by law (I will re post the act when I find the site again!) to travel without a child car seat or booster seat. I know that people will disagree because a booster seat is only to lift the child so the cross chest section of the seat belt does not run accross the neck or face of the child but, the cross chest part of the seat belt could also be what saves your childs life!

Could you imagine the injury your child would incure if, let's say a lorry, was to run in to the back of your car and they were only wearing a lapbelt. I think you can imagine the rest!

If your going to put them in the back, do it right either by not putting them in the back at all or by fitting cross chest seat belts.
