Right, dont know if many will fancy it, but ive got a forum trackday going on the BMW Forums, and zeds want to join in?

Its looking like Castle coombe on 4th October.

Were getting it discounted from a usual £149, to £129.

Nobody else on the track but us!

Should be fun...

That's Roses birthday, she might be up for a drive round the track in her Z if we have everything sort on it by then, and it's October, so I'm ok with blowing mine up at that point :D lol I'll ask her when she gets home.

sounds good ...

theres a slight problem ..

Will the Zed last that long lol

Its a road trip too then!

I went 3 hours to Cadwell last month. Its worth it mate, trust me!

Yeah you probably don't want to constantly drive the Z round a track for 8 hours, as that'd be a lot for any road going car, oil, tyres, brakes etc. would all start to dissintigrate and fade, you take it down there, assuming there is an open pit lane, drive it around a bit, pull it in, look at your times, if there's anything adjustable on your car you adjust it, etc.

Yeah its open pit lane.

I usually do around 5 laps, then come in for 10mins or so.

100db @ 4500rpm

We needs numbers sooner rather than later please.

It wont happen unless weve got enough people.

Come on, you know you want to!

Anyone got a decibel meter then? Cos Mine might be close, but Mikeys is most likely over!

i know mines over, but one of those exhaust bungs brings it down just enough,

i always though it was 129 for castle combe, maybe that's just japfest... i know they didn't let my old s13 out because it was 135db!!! lol dont ask how you make a 1.8 that loud as im not sure tbh...

nah, Japfest is 100db as well. Most tracks in the UK range from 100 to 105 I believe.

Most Z's meet the limits, occasonally the loudest ones are just over. They supply(sell) bungs on site.

135 is incredibly loud, its considered the theshold limit of pain, where even short-term exposure can cause serious damage.

i know lol

ran it with a bung at all times, we took it out to test the noise and it was 135db... it was literally a straight pipe with a 4" back box, was ordered by a police man not to drive on the road without the bung lol. was replaced with a apex system before the MOT as it was annoying everyone including me. was surprisingly quite on idle though was only as the T3 kicked in it got loud.

:offtopic: sorry. no more S13 talk.

LOL,

I can see that the recovery vehicle is going to have a busy day

Who's gonna be on standby on the help and advice section when you lot are out on track? I reckon you should pursuade Jeff to come with a support vehicle (for a fee of course), just in case.

I'd be tempted myself, but with standard brakes its pretty pointless - I can cook the brakes in 3 hard stops on a country lane, nevermind a circuit. I've seen enough cars with their brakes on fire at trackdays, don't fancy risking it with my pride and joy. Maybe next time.

You should still be able to have a pretty good day though, you don't have to hammer the car as hard as you can - that's just my preference.

Good luck with this one - make sure someone takes a camera too - for some onboard footage.

Hollowpoint - don't do any timing, its a big 'no no' on track days, most will kick you off if they catch you. You can feel when you're going quickly anyway, its the bends which are the fun bit - the straights just link them up!

Don't do any timing? Most track days I've been on, they'll tell you how fast you went round the track? They can't really kick me off for driving fast, around a race track, on a track day can they? What would be the point in going? lol

no, they don't..

I've been on many trackdays at many different circuits - its always the same. No timing allowed - drive as fast as you like - but don't you, or anyone else time the car - not even from the pitwall.

Do not confuse trackdays with trackday experiences - where you are driving someone elses car at a ridiculous cost for about 5 mins.. Totally different things.

Cheers

Last time I went to Silverstone I had all my lap times printed off for me and everything, that's just pathetic if they've stopped doing that!
