Having had my wheels painted the other day, I had a close look at the rear tyres on the car. They have worn absolutly bang on the money evenly but they are getting close to the wear markers.

Now I cant be bothered to go and look but I am 95% sure they are 275/35/18 on the rears - problem is the cheapest I can find per tyre around £200 (some cheap brand), and I cant find Falken 452's in that size either at any price. But I can find 265/35/18's Falken 452's for £142 each.

Will I be ok to have this slightly narrower tyre fitted? I'm aware that it will have a minimal stretch but its hardly the dangerous VW scene is it?!

Mine had 275s on when I bought it, but they were bald as a coot, so I ended up with 265s and they're fine, if a little shit because I got ripped off, but the width is just fine.

My rear tyres cost 50 quid apiece, have done about 7 thousand miles and look exactly the same as they did when I bought the car.

They do, however, loose traction rather a lot when its wet.. :whistling:

Mine are in a similar way, we took the back wheels off last night and couldn't believe how much tread was on them, unfortunately as you say, traction isn't their strong point, and I didn't pay £50 a side for them either :( Over £300 for the pair, I got ripped off by a double team of the old owner and his tyre garage.

Wahoo! Thanks guys!

I was dreading looking at this topic thinking it would be 100's of replies of "no you cheap tw@t put the proper size on....!"

I'll sacrifice 10mm for several hundred quid and being able to match the tyre brands! :D

I didn't even think you were being a tight arse, I just thought you were being fussy over having Falkens and rightly so :D
